A larger screen would be just as unusable for us.

The answer is very simple - Apple should be able to do three sizes of flagship phone. It's not rocket science.

How would it be unusable? If they somehow put a 4.7" screen on a 5S size ( or similar size) phone you'd be incapable of using it?

Now that we know that Technarchy can comfortably use an S5 one-handed, we can safely say that everyone can and anyone who says differently is either deluded or lying.

No.

Now we know when someone asks if "the days of one handed usable phones are over", I will say no. I used my 5S one-handed, and I use my S5 one-handed.

So no, those days aren't over.

From my perspective 4.7" doesn't go far enough, and I hope Apple shows off the fabled 5.5" model as well.

I understand that it might not be what you prefer, but "unusable"?

Yeah, even people who have had bigger phones and didn't particularly like the size just don't understand what it is that they really want. Thank you for saying this! It's about time that people realize that because using a phone two-handed works great for some that it's fine for everyone and anyone who has any negativity at all towards bigger phones just needs to get over it because it's not a big deal.

EDIT: I guess it's not clear, but this post is 100% sarcasm; my point being that just because you are fine with a bigger phone doesn't mean that everyone is or should be, and admonishments to "get over it" are ridiculous because you're essentially telling people to ditch their preferences for yours. Happy posting.

Get over it. It's not a big deal.

Are the days of a 4" one-hand usable smartphone over?

Technically yes, at least when it comes to Apple. If they no longer manufacture a new iPhone in 4" then you can't buy/use one now can you?
...

That said I think a lot of people are still very closed minded about a device that hasn't even been announced yet. It could have gestures out the whazoo and you only need to touch the bottom 2" of screen (ahem Apples already implemented a lot of these gestures).

Also what is the matter with the 5S? Isn't it 4"? Am I supposed to feel bad for someone that stands in line come fall for a device they think is too big? Cry me a river...

I liked the 3.5", and check my sig....still have it. If I don't like the iPhone 6 I'll save myself a couple bucks and get a 5S. Obviously my buying decisions don't apply to everyone, however I don't find anything weird about NOT buying things you don't like :gasp!!:

I had a galaxy nexus which was a 4.65 in screen I think. It was rather easy to use with one hand. But for the lady's with small hands I imagine it might be a little difficult. I think it would benefit apple to continue making 4 in versions for that reason. I know a lot of people who stick with apple because of the smaller screen size. It might cause people to stray to android if the reason they hadn't switched yet was due to the larger screens on android phones.

You can't please all the people all the time. A hell of a lot have jumped ship to Android precisely because of the larger screens.

You can use a bigger phone with one hand.

Now your fingers won't be completely wrapped around the phone because of how small it is.

Sure they can. You'll just have to accept the fact that they won't all have same features.

I can adapt easily for a bigger screen iPhone. Im tired of this small 4" screen, but i only want iPhone.

My s4 is one hand able

I'm a guy with what I'd consider large-medium hands and I couldn't one-hand the S4 reliably after 6 months. I could just about get to the top edge of the screen, but not without dropping it half the time (slippery back). A case improved the grip, but made it bulkier to the point that I could use even less of there screen.

The Moto X with the curved back, 4.7 inch screen, and grippier back is about perfect, though. If the iPhone 6 dimensions are similar to it I'll be happy to switch back to iOS.

I just don't get it. So what? What's the big deal about using two hands sometimes?

I'd love a Nokia candybar phone again but we use phones for much more than just calls and text now.

I'm starting to believe that this forum is filled to the brim with war veterans, traffic accident victims and other random amputees who are all left with just one hand.

Not everybody wants a bigger phone and not everybody wants to always use two hands. Ever ride the subways?

Not to mention that tweeted photo of the supposed iphone 6 looks out of proportion.

Lolz. Or people who are constantly doing something with their other hand?

I wouldn't even give it that long. A decade ago, everyone was trying to come out with the smallest phone possible. The pendulum's going to swing back in another couple years I'm sure.

Yep, I agree. It's a cycle. Some feature later down the road will cause people wanting things small again and Apple returning to 4", but the question is, imo, the hype on smartphones will eventually fade like flat screen TV's.

A decade is an enormous time when it comes to smartphones. A Treo was the phone I was lusting for in 2004.

I doubt phones, as we know them, will be around in 2024. I rarely make calls on my 'smartphone' as it is.
