You have something to hide?

I don't mind giving it up in exchange for conveniences like automatically marking my calendar for date and plan confirmations sent to my email or giving me a heads up on traffic and weather conditions based on where I am and when I'm expected to leave.

This. I don't know why Chrome uses so many resources. ☹️

Not really, but I don't like companies like Google, using MY personal data for their business, in many cases without my express permission.
Do they offer some good services? Yes they do.

Oh please, stop being paranoid and uninformed.

According to my calendar it's 2015. There's a sector of the industry known as "Big Data" if you had one sliver of knowledge about what Big Data does, they make Google look like clueless first grade children. But no one is going to be any more aware of it than you presently, unless they care enough to do the work and research it. It's neither advertised, nor as easy to find as the next new movie release.

If you wish to be relevant and knowledgeable about what's really going on, learn about the companies who's only job is to gather your data. Once you have a grip on that suddenly you'll laugh at your former image of Google.

Yes they track your buying habits and other non threatening preferences like airlines and such. They can then sell ads, you get a massive advantage of All the Free Google services. Services that so many people use frequently, they have forgotten just how much they rely on Google.

It's Google that's changed and continues to change the world. But like anything else that one gets for free suddenly they don't value it like if they had to pay $90,000, like so many do for a new German Luxury Car.

Google is loved by many and only hated by the paranoid, under informed , victim types.
The one uninformed are you.
I don't care if there are "bad guys " out there worse than Google.
Google 's core business is data mining, no matter how much you love them and twisted the reality about them.
I don't want to support a data mining company, even if I don't have much to hide.

There's loving, there's hating, and then there's a whole lot in between where most of reality falls for many people.
It's not a love/hate affair.
I just don't trust Google, and looking at their recent history I would say I have good reasons for that.

Interesting the emotion you attach to a statement I made.

I do fully realize that one gets kudos from your other Google Fearing / Bashing buddies. Especially in this forum where spewing venom about Google is wildly popular.

If you're so convinced Google is evil then the most logical choice is to detach yourself from the Internet.
Just think, a spiral paper notebook doesn't require batteries, never crashes and only goes where you take it. :D

I attached no emotion that didn't appear to be there in the first place. I can think of no other reason why one would defend an ad company which has lied to its users, backtracked on promises, and masquerades as a tech company, yet earns somewhere north of 90% of its revenue from selling user data. The only reason I could come with as to why you'd defend them so is that you either have a vested interest or have been playing a drinking game with some Apple fanboys and matching their Apple juice shots with the Schmidt-flavored Koolaid.

I don't have "buddies" on here, so kudos are irrelevant. I'll dole out effort kudos here for you though for trying.

I have no tin foil hat; I'm not deceived about the fact that my data is mostly being used by entities unbeknownst to me in ways I'd prefer it not be. HOWEVER, taking your argument to reductio ad absurdum is weak sauce though.

Instead though, I simply elect to weigh my chances and protect myself in ways that seem reasonable (E.g. using Apple hardware, content blockers, VPN's, DuckDuckGo, etc). What that DOESN'T include is voluntarily giving my info over to a company that has a track record of deceptive practices (which have made its old "Don't be evil" motto a industry tongue-in-cheek joke).

I prefer Safari as I like how all of my bookmarks are saved through iCloud and made available on my iPad Air as well.
