Is this somehow a problem exclusive to the 3GS? I thought it had the same case as the 3G, but mine has been taking a beating for almost 2 years without a crack.

My phone has two cracks in the case.

One coming from the dock connector, and the other one inbetween the vibrate switch and the bezel.

I can live with them, but I would like to get a replacement if its on offer.

My only concern is that my replacement may have the same problem because there are an awful lot of people on here and the internet in general with the same problem.

So is it just something I should live with?

Thanks

I have a Day 1 black 32GB 3GS. No cracks.

I got a replacement lastnight. No hassle at all. He checked serial and said I had 36 days left. "You want a new phone"?

My launch day black 3GS hsa no cracks or problems, but my wife's white 3GS also bought on launch day has several cracks by the earphone jack, the dock connector, volume button, mute switch and a long (2") crack down the back.

Thinks it's time to get her's exchanges before the warranty is up.:

Fine here,

But my iPhone 3gs spent literally 20 seconds out of the case when I first got it. Only taking it out to clean it ~monthly.

Just got back from the apple store in Manchester Trafford centre with mew phone.

So easy and understanding!

Glad I gave it a go. :)

Mine has 3 very small cracks in it, it's 3 months old and has been in a case since day one, I am very reluctant to have it replaced as I have had it officially unlocked by o2 and it cost me £20 and took around a month to be done (don't want to have to go through that again if they give me a refurb) anyway, can I ask how big the cracks were on your phone? I mean the ones on mine are very small, they probably wouldn't even show up on a photo but they are there and I can see them getting worse, I just don't know if Apple would consider them a big enough problem to replace it, also the Trafford Center store is my local store so that's the one I would take it to

I bought my 3GS last June and I use it every single day but take very good care of it, and not one crack or major scratch, it was put in a very good InCase plastic case from the minute I bought it.

All iPhones with the plastic thing have cracks. You just don't see them, but they are there. Cracks on black iPhones are usually very hard to notice.

Same goes for everyone saying otherwise.

Wow, that's quite the statement. All of them, eh? When exactly have you had the time to examine all 50 million + iPhones that have sold world-wide to confirm your statement?

You must have missed mine.... I don't have any cracks at all.

I think that your avatar is clouding your judgement.....

what kinda of info do they ask???

My problem is that mine is originally from USA. Would they still replace it?

I disagree that ALL the 3G's and 3GS' have cracks...the potential is there but I just exchanged a white 3GS that had subtle cracks to a new one with no cracks

cracked case

I am on my second 3Gs iphone, and the first one was returned for a cracked case and now my second one has cracked also. In the same spot around the charge port and the vibrate/ring switch.

And I'd bet that 95% of those that are saying no cracks have a black phone - where you can't see the cracks even if you do have them.

I do have the black iPhone.

However, I examined it closely under a bright light just to make sure I didn't miss anything.

No cracks.

Thanks for playing.

Just checked mine and I have a crack too. Though I have to admit that I did not even notice. And will now probably forget. Hopefully the next design will mitigate this issue. Annoying but a small issue that wont affect my future purchases.

Mine (white model) has the standard-issue dock connector crack -despite treating it like a baby because I knew that it is a common problem. I wouldn't be getting it fixed/replaced, except:-

Within the last couple of weeks, a huge dust particle has found its way right under my screen (dead centre, just my luck) so I am making an appointment at my 'local' Apple Store (100 miles away) so I can have both problems fixed.

I just did. For you. Because you're that important to me.

There are still no cracks.

Why is that so hard to believe?
Because I've probably had 15-20 iphones (all white) due to returning them for various issues. My wife and I have always had white phones, and every single one has showed some sort of hairline cracks near the bottom or the volume. I think it is just cracked in the clear coat of the plastic? Anyway, I figured with that info that all of them must have these cracks as well. My current phone has them but you can't see them with the naked eye. I would be that your black phone has them too, you just can't see them due to the color. But alas, it really is of no consequence and it makes zero difference in the performance of the phone. I think people need to just stop nitpicking all the time.
