Even on days when I have to go out frequently or just for a short outing, I make sure to check my waist pack or purse before I leave. I want to ensure that I have my iPhone, chargers, keys, wallet, and Apple Watch with me.

Similarly, I check the dock on my nightstand before going to bed to make sure my Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhone aren’t forgotten there.

I also make sure to bring my Mac to school when I use my backpack. I check to make sure it’s in the right place and I also remind myself about it when I fill my lunch bag

No way to leave my house without my phone as my vehicle tells me, on the screen, it can not find my 17 ProMax for CarPlay.
Car Bluetooth technology and CarPlay can also tell if you forgot your iPhone at home. The iPhone needs to be in range of the vehicle to work.

My method wasn't my idea, but rather the result of leaving my condo without the phone on several occasions.

When I go out I'm usually walking and put my Bluetooth earbuds in and start listening to a podcast. When I get about 30 feet down the hallway, I lose the Bluetooth connection and realize that my phone is still in the condo.

With how long some cars take to connect, I wouldn’t be surprised that some people will just drive off and not think twice until they look at the screen.
My vehicle notices that my iPhone is not present quickly and if you don’t pay attention tries to switch to Google Maps. I know before I get out of the driveway n

Always keep my phone in my purse and just charge in the office. For some reason, I can forget to take my phone from the bedside dock at home but I never forget to take it from my office desk.

Personally, I have workarounds so it's not a huge deal if I forget the phone at home: cellular iPad mini and iPhone setup for Number Sync, wi-fi calling, iMessage and SMS forwarding. I sometimes forget my iPhone but I'm pretty much glued to the iPad mini.

We also have a dedicated "car phone" (Google Voice + cheap Android with 1-year Tracfone service) for emergencies.

If you don’t use cellular or wear a GPS-based Apple Watch, I usually know if I left my iPhone at home based on the connection status.

You can also enable “notify when left behind” notifications on the Find My app on your iPhone, so your Apple Watch can notify you if you accidentally forget to bring your iPhone.

Cos you can’t unlock and start it if you use the digital key, right?
That is the case for me, but it’s a Bluetooth key for Tesla. But it doesn’t work if the phone is in the house so there is that. I do run into issues if I decide to take public transit though, but I just have to run back to the house and grab the phone in that case.

So come to think of it, there is no real feasible way for me to leave the house without my phone :p. Except maybe a pre-ordered Uber. (New fear unlocked now)

Agreeable Teslas have more connectivity and smart features than other brands.

I can’t leave the house without my iPhone with me, and in addition to that, I don’t set up cellular on my Apple Watch either as you have to pay an extra fee for it.

It's the reason I have cellular on my Apple Watch. I forgot my phone one day and couldn't stop worrying about what I would do if the car broke down.

Start saying "PKW" before leaving. Phone, keys, wallet.

Personally I 3D printed a tray with slots for my wallet, keys, phone and blade. Each item has a designated space (like a cafeteria lunch tray but smaller). Its mostly so I don't lose those things when I get home and change but it also reminds me to take everything I guess....

I do remember the mnemonic term for the phone keys wallet.

I do keep my keys with my AirPods, my Apple Watch and iPhone on a dock, and the wallet and glasses are in a tray in my nightstand

This is a very unpopular choice, but I use a wallet folio case for my iPhone, and so I have my driver's license and a spare credit card with it 24x7 (I also have a few more cards but I won't admit to those). I don't use the magsafe wallet solution because (1) it blocks wireless charging, and (2) it can come off the iPhone (not easily but the fact that it is detachable also means it's losable).

So, I only need my iPhone and keys.

I used to forget my iPhone a few times but damn I am on a 5-6 year streak of not forgetting it at home. I almost forgot it in the car once though but I pinged it from my Apple Watch which yup, it was on the seat. It fell out of my pocket.

Don’t need to buy a Tesla. My Honda Ridgeline lets me know if it can’t find my phone for CarPlay.

Some presence of mind on your part.
I find this kind of comment, and especially the amount of positive votes it gets a bit disconcerting. The OP might be forgetful for reasons utterly out of their control. They could be naturally a bit scatterbrained, easily distracted in a way that complicates their life, consumed by worries, other problems etc. A little bit of compassion might go a long way in not making the person feel somewhat worthless or less than others. I say this as someone who is a little bit like the OP.

If you have tips or something constructive to say, leave them - if not, probably better if you "sit this one out" as the Americans say...

On the other hand, MR has a number of users who have a record of posting unanswerable questions, strange thoughts, and requests for advice unsuited for anonymous online message boards. So I'd say your rule of thumb could apply to both thread starters and thread responders.
