If you look at post 23, I was referring to fragmentation between the hardware aspects of all smaller iOS devices (iPhone 4, 5, and iPod Touch).

Also, I think the current iPhone has a PPI of 326.

You're right it does, but i believe 300 is 'retina' by definition.
Regardless, we have roughly 70 days left until WWDC and we find out everything for ourselves.

Apple could fit 3.8" in the current shell and still be at 300ppi/retina. 4" would bump that down to 285. Still better than most anything out on the market.

3.8" in this day and age would be an embarrassment, though. They should either go 4" or put their head back in the sand and stick with 3.5".

Apple has painted themselves in a nice little corner here. Chided if they keep 3.5" and derided if they go to 4" and lose the retina*

I suspect they'll sprinkle some magical unicorn dust on whatever they do and it will still sell like crazy (like always - hell, I'll buy it!). Maybe their marketing department will come up with another magical term to call the 4" screen. I would expect no less.

They are getting away with murder and the iPad 2...They will be trying to get away with it again using iPod touch display in a cheap low end iPhone model, or the iPhone 4 will be thenew lower level?
