Which is the better deal?

Voted dumb question.

It comes down to how the phone will be used and I don't know how one could feel cheated if the price of the new 6 w/16GB remained at the same price as the previous years.

Sure Apple could have taken the high road and upped the 16GB to 32GB but I'm betting some genius in Apple's marketing dept. got a nice bonus for coming up with the 16, 64, 128 configurations.

That said, I feel like a got a bargain with 64GB as I was planning on getting the 32GB.;)

OP, if you actually wanted answers, you shouldn't have derailed your poll with the dumb question option.

Cheated? No.

Disappointed in Apple? Yes.

More disappointed that they may have cheaped out on the storage quality on the 64GB and 128GB models too.

For what you pay, it's actually a great deal, compared to previous iPhones, and 128GB at $399 is a great deal, considering the competitors at $100 less don't even get close to that (even with expandable).

However, I bought the 16GB and I don't feel cheated. I'm using about 45-50% of it and I'm doing just fine.

You're not cheated, you're either happy or you're not paying attention. Apple is cheating anyone, even though IMHO 16gb is a pretty useless option for most people at this point.

16gb is a joke.. my music data is larger than that!
i think Apple line up should be 32,64,128 gb.

How many songs do you have, and how many gb does it use up?

I'm trying to determine if I'm among the people who really don't need more than 16 gb. Other than music, I don't have much on my phone. (A couple of hundred photos, 40 apps, no videos, no games).

I would've but then where does that leave the 16gb version. Is that not a steal?

Did I really need to have all that storage, being that I've got Dropbox?
I have a dropbox and I'm sorry but the cloud or streaming will never make up for on board storage. Its not like an external hard drive, bandwidth costs money and so does the magical iCloudy BS. I use dropbox for extra redundancy and sharing files with devices.
As someone who paid £269 for a 32Gb iPhone 3GS on an 18 month contract, then had to settle for a 16Gb iPhone 5 for various reasons on a 24 month contract. If I was buying an iPhone 6 today, I'd be paying £269 "on contract" for the 64Gb iPhone but over 24 months now so I wouldn't actually be saving over the 32Gb models of previous ranges because the subsidised cost of the phone would be spread over a further 6 months.

I would still get at least the 64Gb model "off contract" of whatever iPhone I get next over a 16Gb model. It's a constant juggling act if you have very eclectic tastes and listen to a lot of live sets or podcasts.

That sucks....why didn't you get a 32GB iPhone 5?! Surely your contract would have been up if you went from 3GS to 5 (unless you had a 4/4S between then).

Had the 32g iPhone 4 then the iPhone 5 and 5s 16g and both have been plenty of space for me. I prefer to start new on each iPhone release so all my photos get saved each year. 2-3 gb a year for photos is enough storage. I stream everything and don't use my 6+ for music.

i have about 4,000 songs, a little over 26gb of music, i also have another 20gbs worth of movies so 128gb was definitely the phone for me

Sorry, but had to vote for the third option.

Don't see how anyone is cheated when they get exactly what they buy, in a way it is advertised, with it's correct price tag.

Nobody is forcing anyone to get 16gb version. Matter of fact, if people won't buy it, you won't see it being produced. Full stop.

There are still many consumers that are just fine with 16 gb. I only use 5 gb of storage on my phone as an example. Paying for more storage than I really need doesn't make financial sense for me personally. All my music resides on my iPod and I don't have many apps. I also don't take very many photos. So I don't feel Apple is ripping anyone off.

Now if you wanted to make the point that storage should start at 32 gb then I'd agree. Where I do feel ripped off is in the amount of ram only being 1 gb. That's really just pathetic with most flagship phones offering so much more.

Are you cheated if you buy the 16GB iPhone?

I still think they should nix 16GB as the entry level and go 32GB instead. However, that's not my decision to make, it's Apple's. I do think for $100 more it's usually a better option to go with the next size up. I think if you are like me and replace phones like crazy, it's okay to have a 16GB. However if you're going to keep it over 6 months, then the better deal is spending $100 more for the larger size for longevity.

I own about 4000 songs total currently. It is tempting to have all of them at the ready on my phone.

Sorry to be ignorant, but what is ram all about? How might that affect things?

How is selling a person what you said you were selling them any sort of "cheat?"

You are not being cheated.

You have the choice of hardware and pricing beforehand, as well as the choice to not proceed with purchase.

I always get the 16gb. Does me fine. But I would get the 64gb if I could justify the the extra £80.

The thing that annoys me though is a 16gb phone is never 16gb.

I think some law should be introduced whereby if a company States it 16,32,64 or whatever GB storage it should be just that. So if the OS will take up 3GB it should be on the company to install a larger chip to insure the users gets 16gb storage space. Not as it is now where the buyer takes the hit and the billion dollar company makes more cash. It shouldn't be that I pay for a device with 16gb storage and only get 13gb usable space. That's not a 16gb phone. It's a 13gb phone.

And given Apple are so tight they won't even allow microSD cards then 16gb really should mean 16GB.

Not too hard to get by with 16GB, have done it for years. I just don't keep music on it. The advent of streaming music is only making it easier :)

I don't know of anyone who likes that. Still, that's the way things have worked for years. This isn't an Apple thing. It's just a computer software thing. If you purchase a Windows computer with X GB of RAM, you will end up with a hard drive with X GB of space - the amount of space needed for the OS. Same with Mac. Same with Android. Same with Windows phones. Same with really any computer (including laptops, netbooks, mobile phones, tablets, etc.). It was even that same on the original Apple computer the two Steves built in a garage. That's just the way this stuff works. You better get used to it and next time factor that knowledge into your purchasing decision.

I've been aware of it and used to it since I built my first PC almost 20 years ago. And I do factor it into my purchases.

I'm not about to kick of or send angry emails etc. I'm simply saying that it's a slight bugbare I have.

If I go and buy a 500GB hard drive. The drive is 500GB (or there abouts). I get what I pay for. With a phone you don't. It's annoying but as you said, it is what it is.

Maybe this is semantics, maybe not. If you buy a bare drive, you get what you paid for. If you buy a computer with an operating system installed, the storage capacity available is net of the space required for the operating system. I think that's the correct analogy to the phone.

They make more money, if 32 gb was entry, less people would buy the 64 gb. Either way , all of us pay the iPhone "penalty" without having SD card support. If the iPhone offered SD support, this survey wouldn't exist.

Basically we are all cheated on the memory since we cannot upgrade with an SD card. It may come handy one day when shooting video @ 1080p. iOS wont let you record at a lower resolution. add 60 fps and it uses alot more storage.

If I go and buy a 500GB hard drive. The drive is 500GB (or there abouts).

Yes. And if you then put that drive in a computer as the primary drive (it's not just a data drive), you'll have a 500GB drive minus whatever space is needed to load an operating system. Doesn't matter if it's Windows, Mac, Linux, etc. That operating system needs to live somewhere. And in this case, that "somewhere" is the free space on your drive.

The phone is no different. They just come with the OS already installed for you.
