Thoughts of the possibilty of the iPhone's screen being longer but not wider?

  • Hey, as long as the screen is diagonally larger, the lack of extra width doesn't bother me.

  • I agree, the screen should be BOTH wider and longer than the current iPhone 4S screen!

  • I just want the screen to stay at 3.5 inches. Anything bigger than that is something I won't use!

Sooo, we all wanted technology to get smaller, and smaller, and smaller... and then we got it!

Noowww, we want it to get bigger again? The grass is always greener, isn't it?

No...computers needed to be smaller! They were huge!
Phones.... I've never ever liked itty bitty phones!
I love Apple, but the iPhone, IMO, is too small!!! I dispise trying to read something in landscape. But it's easier to type in landscape.

I keep reading about pockets.
I personally don't know one single person that carries their phone in their pocket... Seriously.
All the ladies I know place it in a pocket in their purse. All the men I know, have a case with a clip that hooks to their belt or pants.
Even if it were wider, which I wish for... There would still be plenty of room in a pocket.
Hipster's don't use belts. Their pants are so tight they might as well be using tights. This is another reason why they want the phone to be smaller. They want it to slide into their skinny jeans more easily. If the phone got any bigger, they'd actually have to be real men and buy real pants.

Actually, yes. Some of us are women. This may come as a shock to you, but women do in fact purchase consumer electronics such as smartphones.

In fact, I specifically chose the iPhone 4S because it is more ergonomic for my "dainty little hands." I feel alienated as a customer when I come across this "bigger is better" mentality. Is it any wonder that most of the iPhone users I see out-and-about are women?

Now, I have used my husband's Razr Maxx on occasion; although it isn't so large that it is unusable, I find it physically uncomfortable to do things like one-handed thumb typing. If Apple decides to increase the size of the next iPhone, I likely will not bother upgrading until my 4S either stops working, breaks, or is no longer supported.
I'm a woman as well, but want a larger phone. No, I don't have huge hands, but when it comes to the screen... Going a bit larger is needed IMO.

The iphone is so small that it actually feels uncomfortable when you really use it :( even the damm ss bands (antenna) hurts a bit when typing.

I really can't stand typing on the iPhone. I found myself limiting my typing on it because it felt so cramped to type on. I would grab my laptop and type to somebody in bed rather than IM over the iPhone in bed. When I realized that the taller iPhone is probably what is going to happen, I made the switch to a phone with a wider screen. My fingers have never been happier on a touchscreen.

I really don't care if it is 'the same size', 'longer' or 'longer and wider'. I just want the new one out already. My iPhone 4 is on its 25th month and I am itching for a new one other than the iPhone 4S. :apple:

You had to upgrade man, the home button on my iphone 4 alone made me do it plus the 64gb bump lol

But, its not my decision, I'm getting the new iPhone regardless of the screen size.

And herein lies the problem. Apple knows that no matter what they shove out there, people will still buy it. And because of this, there is nothing driving them to change. Like the statement above proves, Apple could make the next iPhone screen smaller and people would still camp out in line in front of the Apple store for a week in order to get one.

I think it could benefit from being marginally wider, but the resolution issue has Apple painted into a corner. Seriously, what are their options? Doubling to 1920x1280 is a pipe dream at this point so that means either sticking to 640 wide as has been mooted, or a weird 1024x768 ala non-retina iPads, but not sure how 4:3 would work for a phone. Badly I imagine.

If there wasn't a resolution issue, I'd happily take a 1280x800 4.3" screen, but that's clearly never going to happen.

That is true. The iPhone 4S is a prime example.

Never quite understood the disappointment with the 4S, year on year Apple dont make huge swingeing changes. I stuck with my 4, and skipped the 3GS previously for the same reason.

I'm done with the iPhone if its 3.5 again though.

Doubt its gonna be 3.5 yegon

Oh I totally agree, thank goodness :)

However, IF it was.....oh dear...I really don't want to leave the eco system, but that would a dealbreaker for sure.

Pointless post this, as you say, it's not going to happen, heh.

Even if its 3.5", it'll sell. I think Apple knows they can put out just about anything and people will buy it. Not saying they would, but they don't have to go over and beyond for sales. But, I really hope it isn't 3.5" again or 3.7". They really need to get out the 3" range.

Microsoft also thought that way with windows, and look the ground that apple got with the Mac...

If a company stays too conservative eventually they lose the market share.

Just take a look at RIM as well. Apple is feeling the heat for Android and Samsung in particular. They know they have to improve over what they have been doing. No one, not even Apple, is to big or to good to eventually fall by the wayside.
