I think for the Pro series lovers, the disappointment is self-induced. Too many here have gotten their Apple ego hurt because their pro series phone has aluminum in it, even though it performs as it should. In my opinion, it is really sad that so many obsess over a phone as much as they do, especially when their car, house, or other truly big purchase isn't 100% steel or titanium.

If I were reading these type posts from kids, it would be somewhat understandable but, seeing it come from adults, is a whole different story.

I wonder how many people are going caseless vs case. Just about everyone I see with a phone has a case on it. My Apple silicone case I used with 16PM covered everything except the camera bump. So I don't worry about what the phone is made of, just how much it weighs.

What’s crazy to me is that the switch to aluminum has enabled a more functional phone in pretty much every way and people are still complaining. Better heat dissipation leads to more sustained performance and a phone that is more comfortable to hold under load. The frame of my 15 Pro got so hot next to the chip when the phone was under load that it could burn my finger. I won’t miss that. The YouTubers who destroy iPhones for a living have shown the screen on the 17 Pro is more resistant to scratches and the whole phone is MUCH more likely to survive a drop than previous generations (even if, yes, there may be some nicks on the aluminum frame). The new design allowed Apple to cram a bunch more battery in there AND improve cellular reception at the same time (which also helps battery life, as does the improved heat dissipation). This is the most functional Pro phone we have ever had and the only thing people can focus on is that it doesn’t look as “premium”.

Really highlights how many people buy the Pro phone as a status symbol rather than as a tool.

I don’t get why everyone here is talking about the materials instead of the new Chinese 17pro from a Chinese company that looks just like the 17 pro but has a screen on the plateau… I find it the most hilarious troll move I have ever seen.. it us kind of sad, but really funny too!

yeah its a big part in why i went with the iPhone Air this year the 17 pro's feel so cheap with aluminum

Yeah after stainless steel and then titanium, I'm just not interested. Was the Air for me in the end. It's like a sequel to the 13 Pro line - same colours and everything.

Sounds like you've spent more time worrying about what choices others are making than they have about what phone they want.

For once I learned that the Apple silicon case wasn’t adequate ( raised edge wise ) on my pro 16 max. Hence I no longer consider those cases. But they were indeed my favorite cases .

I don't care what it's made out of. All I know is that in my opinion the 17 Pro Max is the most comfortable iPhone to hold caseless that I've ever used.

Yes, very disappointed. iPhone 17 Pro Max (orange) which was in a Apple TW case and had screen protector slipped off the table (less than 3 ft) on the ground (outside) somehow it broke the screen protector, dented and scratched the side of the phone and nicked up the case. The aluminum side of the phone is pretty gashed up as it seems to have popped out of the case slightly when it fell. Dropped my 16 Pro Max a lot and don't have a scratch on it.
That’s the poor man’s titanium for ya - next time, stick to real premium materials.

I find the iPhone air more comfortable than the 17pro max
I can't make a fair comparison since I've only held the Air for a few minutes in a store while I've owned the 17 PM for over a week now so I've obviously held it much more, but for me, the extra thickness of the PM and the less glossy feel of the aluminum is what makes it feel better. Hands down the Air looks better but the PM just feels more comfortable in my hand.

I had both the 17 pm and air at one point and to me the aluminum was slippery. I ended up returning the pro max and keeping the air

Agreed. The thermal benefits are material and the aluminum coupled with the rounded edges mean this thing just feels amazing in the hand. I've had every flagship since the original, and it's been a long time since I've consciously noticed how nice a new model felt to hold.

Isn't it obvious? They're little dopamine boxes that people buy just to be able to talk about them. It's like a constant TEDTalk around here with everyone racing to unpack their purchase and then share their Hot Take™ with as many words as possible.

But use it? I mean, who has time when there's so many words to be written about, like, the soul crushing ignominy of aluminum?
