I'm potentially interested. My current carrier is launching an HSPA+ network in June, so I may very well want a phone for it ;)

Well I am of course excited for it but I'm not ready for it just yet. The 3G is just starting to take off and here we are already talking about a new one. I just got my iPhone in December and would hate to see it become obsolete in a few months and the novelty wear off but I suppose Apple has to stay with the times (or get ahead). The first iPhone didn't last long so guess it's a pattern :p

Not really. It's not like I can upgrade my 3G anyway (as of now)

ATT: You can take advantage of our full retail pricing option, with the exception of iPhone which requires a 2-year commitment. This line may be eligible for an equipment discount on 12/12/2009

There will probably be an exception, there was one when upgrading from the original iPhone to the 3g. You get the subsidized pricing if you have an iphone even if you're not upgrade eligible.

I can't wait! I want to see hardware uprades.

Tho, I'll only upgrade if I see a good change, design, hardware, etc.

The first iPhone hadn't had it's price subsidised by the tarriff, so you had already effectively paid for the hardware, which is why the exception was made. Given that the 3G's price *was* subsidised by the tarriff, I think it's extremely unlikely anyone will be given eligability for an early upgrade this time. There might well be some paid for upgrade plan, but that's it.

I didn't upgrade my original iPhone to a 3G for exactly this reason - the difference wasn't worth it at the time, and now I'll be able to get the new iPhone model later this year as an upgrade as my minimum contract runs out then.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm excited about a hardware revision, and I think it's likely it'll be a reasonably significant improvement. We'll have to wait and see about how it looks of course. However, I am not convinced I'll get an iPhone as my next handset unless Apple make huge software revisions in the near future. The iPhone OS has been in a half finished state with little meaningful improvement for a year and a half now.

Well, in terms of hardware, it's likely already obsolete regardless if there is a new iPhone on the market or not. You have 2006's technology in your present iPhone. However, you should get a boost in function/features with a new firmware that should come with the new iPhone. And you'll be likely to load that new firmware on your present iPhone 3G.

Haha yeah. It's like computers I guess. As soon as you get the newest graphics card or processor it's already old by the time you put them in your PC.

Yup, I will be getting it at christmas when my 2 year contract expires with my OG iPhone.

I'm excited for the prospect of a firmware 3.0 release for my 3G that will hopefully come out at the same time as the hardware refresh.

My belief is the hardware refresh in June will not be an all-new form factor as rumored but more of a collection of small to moderate improvements to the current form factor. I can't explain the iPhone 2,1 designation, but for a lot of reasons I just don't expect an iPhone HD or anything like that.

Why no choice of No I'm not excited because I'm happy with the iPhone I have?

Just because I'm not excited about a new phone why does that mean I'd want a Blackberry or a POS Palm Pre, which I think is pretty Fuggly.

I don't know...that Pre is looking pretty darn sweet. Maybe not an iPhone killer, but an iPhone equal in many ways.

That OS is buttery smooth even with a bunch of multi-tasking going on.

I still prefer the total iPhone package over the Pre for many reasons, but the iPhone OS could take a few lessons from this. Honestly.

Not really, I just got my iPhone in December, and I don't see them adding anything I would need to have right now. I mean, a camera on the front would be nice, but I would never Video Conference, I don't do it so much on my mac anyways. Plus you'd have to use the speakerphone, which sucks on every phone in existence. They could add more storage, but I don't really need it. If they added a physical keyboard, I wouldn't use it because I much prefer the touch keyboard. I can't really see upgrading for a camera, and I already have 3g. I just hope they don't upgrade the software and not let you upgrade it on an older phone.

I'll believe it when I see it working like that in the real world not a tweaked prototype. It still is not very attractive looking.

Rumor is that my carrier (Telus in Canada) will begin switching from CDMA to HSPA this summer in major cities.
I'm sure Telus would love to have the a new iPhone to promote the switch and if they do I would love to get rid of my BB curve.

Although the Pre is looking pretty good too....

Bell too is eventually switching from CDMA too, but roll out wasn't suppose to be until 2010. They also plan on going to LTE (4G) which is the main reason for the switch.

You should have added a "I'm happy with my current iPhone" or is no one happy with it? :p I am..

I would doubt it. The first iPhone wasn't subsidized, so those of us that owned it were able to buy the 3G at the subsidized price because we were all eligble to upgrade. Anyone who bought the 3G subsidized will have to wait until they are eligible for an upgrade with AT&T.

I am very excited

I bought the original iPhone when it came out, bought the 3G when it came out, and I will probably be getting the newer iPhone when it comes out

I hope the battery life is MUCH IMPROVED, more space, and better 3G phone service

yess i neglected to buy the 3g
still have the first model now im gonna get this new one
