Seems we have a lot of gingerists on this board sadly :(. Why can't it be counted as a form of racism?

I guess I can't in good conscious use the phrase "red-headed stepchild" anymore. It was one of my favorites. RIP.

My hair is a really (really) dark orange, like a brown sunset. I have no freckels.

You can say my hair is Auburn, everyone at the barber shop thinks my hair is amazing because liek NO one has the color.

People think my hair is unnatural! Because my eyebrows are brown! And i am really tan, im not pale at all. Aso my hair is curly so i have myself an afro:D

And the strange thing is no one in my family has my hair color!

So im not a ginger, im just something else:D

I joke about it a fair bit, but I don't mind ginger folk. My cousin is and a best mate from college. Meh. I don't mind any colour so long as it's not blatantly artificial and painful to look at. Kid at my school many years ago died his hair luminous green, I'm sure it gave me a migraine :D

It's funny how most people who have responded to this thread are from the UK. Actually, the first posts were all from UKers, while Americans started trickling in afterwards. It's likely because most Americans don't know that "ginger" refers to red hair. You'd be surprised how many people thought that Ginger Spice (from the Spice Girls) got her name because she liked the taste of ginger. :p

Ginger hair is not a race thing, it is a genetic thing that is to do with your appearance so it could not be classified as racism.

I do not think that all gingers are gingers in the UK. I really like red heads and by that i mean a hint of red and not orange

Genetic like being born black, or brown, or whatever color skin you have?

As a redhead, I certainly don't care for being treated/talked-about like a frickin' alien sometimes. I've been treated quite like dirt throughout my younger years, and unfortunately, it's stuff I don't forget very well. Now, people just look at me like "A REDHEAD! NEAT!"

This has bothered me lately, it's kinda like allot of people think it's ok to constantly take the piss out of ginger people, it's not funny and it's not clever.

I like red hair, it can be very attractive. Hell, I married a girl with red hair.
It's one of those bizarre things, when you're a kid, red hair is teased, when you're an adult, it's lusted over. (for girls anyway, guys seem to get a rawer deal here)
"Gingerism", it's not racism, but it is discrimination, and there should be more done about it.

OK, I know it must be a bitch to be victimized for your hair colour, but I just have this feeling of "I knew this was gonna happen some day". Ginger hair and freckles is not attractive to me...but then neither is overweight and follicly challenged like Yours Truly.

Love to hear opinions... :D

Are you Gingerist?
