Depends if you are decrypting within your Dropbox folder, or moving it outside and manually synchronizing it encrypted again back to the Dropbox folder.

That depends on whether you are only theoretically paranoid, or also practically ;)

If the NSA is concerned with half finished toy packaging, have at it. I think the worst thing I have in my are some semi-nude photos of myself and my friends that I use as pose/anatomy references for work.

I don't support people who support terrorism or companies that employ war criminals.

Dropbox has had a number of security issues and is usually late in fessing up to the breaches. They cannot be trusted. Now with a war criminal on board, they definitely cannot be trusted.

I deleted and closed all Dropbox, Mailbox and Carousel apps.

Ultimately it doesn't matter which cloud based service you use, your data is not your data and if someone wants to access it, they will.

However I do like how people are voicing their opinions and showing these companies that who you hire is very important. Mozilla got rid of their CEO. I can't believe Dropbox hired Rice. I haven't gotten off it yet, but I will shortly.

I set up an ownCloud instance for this exact reason. I took an old computer I had, installed Ubuntu and then ownCloud. Now I have as much space as I want and the only person that has access to it is me. It's not perfect, but it's good enough for me and, imo, offers more peace of mind than public clouds.

No because there's no alternative. iCloud is good for syncing Apple devices and uploading little iWork docs but it's not so good for storing photos, videos etc. and Google Drive, ummm... If you abandon dropbox due privacy problems, Google services are not really a good idea.

That's awesome - thanks for sharing.. gonna check it out.

Google is open about what they are doing. Dropbox is not. In fact they have had breaches in the past and was really late fessing up to it. Dropbox is a bag of hurt.

Not at all. Nothing that I put on Dropbox is sensitive anyway. If the NSA wants to take a look at some of my engineering spreadsheet and documents they can have at it.

SkyDrive? It works pretty much identical to Dropbox.
