This. In a world of the selfie stick and people taking picture or recording with their big ass ipads, there's nothing embarrassing about using the :apple: watch

I have a Pebble Steel. No one ever notices it for something other than a watch. I suspect the Watch will be the same way.

I won't, however, talk on its speakerphone in public or talk to Siri in a big crowd. In my office, home or car, however, I plan to (and already do) use Siri frequently.

I think the only people who would be embarrassed are the ones asking if anyone else is embarrassed.

Sure, people will notice it but SO WHAT?

WAIT? Did you mean Embarrassed to wear Aluminum? I guess THAT I could understand.

Yes, I expect to fully be made fun of my everyone I know. Therefore I ordered the most generic version, 38mm classic buckle, and plan to wear it with the watch face on the inside of my wrist to avoid notice. And I'll be wearing long sleeves.

I'll wear it proudly, but I work with some older guys, a few of which are, how do I say it nicely, super thrifty. So they will look at me like I'm nuts having spent that much on a watch. But screw em.

I do feel we might get some extra attention from people while we use our watch. I just hope I don't get a lot of people asking to try it out because the answer will be no.

No not at all. I'll use it like every other piece of technology I have; It's just a watch.

Seriously, this is the truth. I've been all over the place with a glowing smartwatch for years now, and people just pretty much didn't pay attention until they started hearing about them on the news.

Exactly. I've been using a Pebble for over a year. The first time I paid for my order at Starbucks with it, the barista said, "You're like a cyborg." Since then, I've heard things like, "You're from the future," or "Is this a scam?" or "Is that an Apple Watch?"

Same here. I think I've mastered how to discretely glance at my Pebble to get notifications in an unobtrusive manner. I don't see how the AW will be different in that regard.

I won't wear my apple watch when
1. I'm meeting important clients (most of them wear Rolex)
2. Out with friends ( who already think I'm a nerd but I hide it well )
3. Going out on dates

Come to think of it why am I buying an apple watch !!

Seriously, why are you?

But just curious, do you think your clients have such low self-esteem they would be intimidated by the sight of your apple watch? If they're your friends, they might rib you for a minute, but they'll quickly move on to something else. Your wrist is not that important. Finally, you really think a date would consider the watch when deciding whether or not to go out with you again?

To each his/her own I guess.

It's a watch with enhanced uses. Why would anyone be embarassed? There are already loads of DB's who hang around the gym and have phone conversations on their BT headset instead of working out.

Who cares if you talk to your watch when it can actually answer. It's not a 6 ft white rabbit.

I was looking at some Watch apps earlier on and I started thinking I would feel embarrassed using the watch in public, i.e. interacting with it: touching the screen, talking into it, and so on.

I'm reminded of the Sinclair C5 electric car. It was going to change the world. Nobody bought them because people felt ridiculous in them.

We're all buying Apple Watches of course but I wonder how we'll use them in practice.

I would think Google Glass wearers would be more embarrassed than Apple watch users.

The only time I was embarrassed using my Pebble watch in public was when I was getting e-mails during a meeting, and had my phone set on silent. Whenever the watch would vibrate I would look at it to check who the e-mail was from. (I was expecting an important one.)

The person who was leading the meeting thought I was checking the time, and commented that the meeting would soon be over. I had to apologize, of course, and explain what I was actually doing.

You might let my experience be a lesson to you.

Other than that I've not ever been embarrassed to use it in any way in public.

I've seen in this thread people commenting on speaking to their phones in public. I would be careful of such action in public as a security thing. Be careful what info you are vocalizing, and remember that talking to your watch is a dead give away that it is an Apple Watch to any potential thieves in the area.

Other than this caveat have fun.
