I have a 3G iphone and with all the rumors and speculation, i see no reason why anyone would upgrade to the new one unless there was something truly kickass coming out like a front facing camera.

reasons why someone would upgrade to a slightly better 3G are:
-still have a 2G
-wants more storage
-better processor? eh, lotta money i bet you can save

im basically saying, apple made allot of money off people upgrading from 2G's to 3G's so if they want that again they better have thrown a video camera on the front or ill keep my 3G till next year.

+1 to the shiny factor :D

My best justification is that if I get the new version, my hubby can upgrade from the 2G to my current 3G.

^^ yep im ready for 3g, gps, video, and more speed!

No. I don't want another phone that as shiny as it maybe will be locked down like a supermax prison for the next 6 months and require a contract.

I have not seen any reasonable information that provide a fondation for what this phone will or will not have and what it will or will not do...

So this thread is PREmature at best. Although I hesitate to put the words pre and mature next to one another.

ill likely pay more than that..

and i just bought my iphone 3g a month ago...

it can always be sold..and i NEEEED the fastest..
its not even a matter of want..i NEED it

Friend is buying my 3G off me for whatever the Best Model costs, so yeah, basically free :D

I will because I don't currently own an iPhone. so "marginal upgrade" doesn't even have relevance to me.

So what did the 3g have over the first generation iphone but people gobbled it up..

I don't feel like this is a marginal upgrade. Double the processor speed and double the RAM is really going to be a GIANT performance increase. Should make everything super snappy and super fast. It will improve the rendering on web pages, and if Apple does include the 7.2 mbps radio our internet will be over the double the speed it currently is. It should be great.

The better camera and magnetometer is just an added bonus, the improved processing power is where it's at.

why wouldnt he just get the new one? unless he just want the device with no contract right?

Because the upgrade for me will cost under £200 Judging by last year. My iPhone 3G is still worth about £300, and a Pay as you Go Model is £400 for the current.

- And, he got fired today, perfect >.<

I still have the 2G iPhone...if there is simply nothing new about this new iPhone...then I'm sorry to say but my 2G still works. If I'm gonna shell out another 200-300 bucks for this it needs some kick to be added to it...Cmon Apple...please add something cool....:apple:
