I don’t think it’ll deter most people because it’s only $100.

What I think will deter people from upgrading is the overall cost of living and lack of expendable cash for many households. This year I am finding myself with considerably less expendable cash than previous years so upgrading my 12 Mini is not very high on my agenda.

I'd say it's an overdue hike (based on Apple margin requirements), so I'm mentally prepared. Apple already hinted this with the MacBook Air pricing.

+$100 for regular
+$200 for Pro

Surely a lot of people barely pay attention to hike in the full price if they're upgrading via Verizon or similar and paying a new 25 a month or whatever vs that full price tag. Not saying it doesn't make an impact but I can admit I kind of feel like things are less expensive when prices are shown like that which is of course the intention. I have the 13PM so not dying to upgrade, I'm fine skipping a couple versions if nothing appeals a lot to me, at that price point and the way we pay the bill though the ~$100 is not the deciding factor

Isn’t there always a price increase with a new model? Whether is Samumng flagships or iPhones

It's still going to depend on what new features they reveal. And if they have crazy carrier trade in deals again.

$100 deters me from upgrading storage almost all the time, but I can afford it if I so desired. There is a psychological threshold even if not a financial one.
Yes the one that could be the issue is the regular Pro. If that rises, it breaks the US $1k threshhold

iPhones these days are too expensive and overkill for my needs. It may "only" be a $100 price hike, but that's still over $1,000. If I upgrade, it's to a refurbished older model as usual. Perhaps an SE?

The way things are going up in price these days I have just taken advantage of the 14 day return policy and took my case and wallet back.
Not going to spend more money on a new phone even if it has lots of new features.
Yes it's not just that the 14 may go up, Everything is going up, especially needs. So some of the wants will get squeezed out of budgets.

I've been on the IUP since it was first came out, with what I believe was the 6s. As silly as this sounds, I might only upgrade this year to the 14Pro if the purple color is true. Otherwise, I would probably keep my 13Pro for another year and pay it off. I cheated out and got 128GB, so I wouldn't mind 256; but $100 more for the phone + $150 more for storage might be too much. Unless again - Purple.

Funny that us pro users are so starved for rainbow colors, that we will pounce for one. Hope it's a bright purple, or I will keep Sierra. Sure my wife wlll be on it in an instant though.

Phone upgrades aren't as big of a deal as they used to be so we'll see what they announce this year. Trying to think what would get me to upgrade my 12Pro. Would love a mini with the Pro camera array, but that likely won't happen (plus discussions of the mini being discontinued). No/smaller notch, better battery, larger camera sensors? Eh. I just don't geek out about it the way I used to since the updates are so minor nowadays.

Getting back to a possible $100 increase, if that includes more storage or something to offset the cost then that's fine. Otherwise, the fact we're already paying $1k+ for a *phone* is pretty ridiculous. Not that I don't have the disposable income to do it, but without a significant reason to do so, I have better things to do with my money and could wait for the 15 Pro.

I also always buy phones unlocked/outright, not on some subsidized carrier plan

Not necessarily. There have even been price decreases at various times, at least for comparable storage. A recent example is the 128GB and 256GB iPhone 13s which were each $50 less than the price of 128GB and 256GB iPhone 12s at launch the year before.

all depends on new design , if those two punch holes look as bad the existing notch i will skip this year too

I’ve been saving for the 14 Pro Max all year and had already included an extra $200 just in case there would be a price increase, so I’m prepared for it. Whatever is left over will go towards my Apple Watch.

This is the approach I'm taking as well since I'm on IUP. If there isn't a new feature that I absolutely need, I'll most likely just keep my 13 and ultimately pay it off. I have been contemplating going with the Pro this year, but I'm going to wait and decide when Apple announce the new devices.

For me the SE 2022 was a godsend. iPhones are getting too expensive for me to buy new every September. I used to get the new iPhone every year but now I have the SE 2022 and an iPhone 8 Plus. I will just keep using them until they die on me. The $100 bump just makes me want to buy an older iteration of the iPhone or a future SE when that day comes.

It all depends on what the new phone will offer and if its worth it to me personally. I think as time goes on and prices rise there will be plenty of years where an upgrade is simply throwing money away. Regardless of how financially well off you are, there comes a time when it goes from being a tech enthusiast to being foolish.

In general though I think the time between upgrades will increase for a lot of people.
