"Yes, there are things a miss about my mechanical watches. The sweet sound of the second hand or the beating of the movement. The beautiful glow of wonderful lume."

You may want to search for an app that makes the ticking sound, or provides a small pulse as it beats. And surely you can find one that provides a lovely lume glow of the watch hands.

I jest - kind of. I've been able to find a complication for nearly everything I loved about my mechanical watches.

I like watches. Have plenty of them. From cheap Knockoffs to expensive ones.

Whenever i check Apple watch, i wanted to get one. but, i feel, i cant stick to one watch model.
i will definitely miss different traditional watches if i commit to smart watch, which has stuck to one squire shape. You can get different bands but that wont beat having different watches.

So, my question to those who bought apple watch(specifically watch enthusiasts). Are you happy with the watch or you went back to traditional watches. I agree smart watch has many other benefits. but not everyone uses/likes them.

Thanks.
I am very happy with my Apple Watch, but I wouldnt mind it one bit if some generous soul would care to donate a Philippe Patek Calatrava. If somebodys interested in helping me out Ill be very happy to specify my model of choice and give you my mailing address.

After owning Apple Watch Series 0, Series 2 and Series 4, I can tell smartwatches are not for me. During these years I have found myself using the apple watch only for fitness tracking (which I have to admit is one of the best in this category). Never had a call on my watch. Never replied a text message, never used an app. Only notifications were kind of useful for me, but I've found myself only looking at notifications and dismissing them - or switching to my iPhone if an app needed immediate action. For my usage, a fitness tracker is the best.

Over the last few months, I have noticed that I use my AW4 less and less. Similar to someone else, I was/am virtually using it purely for notifications.

Begs the question why have such an expensive device, merely for notifications.

Hmm...

Guess depends on the user for me even for just notifications it’s worth it to me. I use it for fitness and of course for sport scores and the odd few apps.

Depends what else you used to use it for or want to use it for?

I have two mechanical watches, nice but far from high end. Didn’t wear them much before Apple Watch and never do now.

I wear my s3 every day - work, casual, and exercise. Love it.

I can’t imagine going back to being without my Apple Watch. I’ve got all kinds of gadgets but am dependent on the watch for my work schedule, appointments, running data and music. Nothing like leaving my phone at home and staying connected. Also love pairing w AirPods. Wish there was a way to not have to download audible books but other than that is flawless imho

I’ve been in the same position. When I first purchased the Apple Watch first GEN in 2015, I primarily only used it for notifications and basic fitness. As much as I like the Apple Watch, it’s a fairly expensive device, (especially for the stainless model), but I find myself gravitating more towards my mechanical watches than I do my Apple Watch as of late. The Apple Watch is a great device, but now I tend to only want to use it for fitness only, as My mechanical watches are more for style, diversity and generally I find them more appealing then seeing the same Apple Watch on my wrist all the time.

Ummmm, I quoted what I was referring to for a reason and not implying anything outside of that. I'm referring to your saying that buying Apple Watches is cheaper than buying mechanical watches… because it isn't. Not unless you're incapable of buying a decent mechanical watch which "I started buying 2-3 watches per year" sort of suggests.

I think he may also be referring to maintenance costs. Many mechanical watches cost several hundred dollars to service every few years. If you’re talking Omegas and Rolexes, you’re taking nearly $1k for a standard service. If you have multiple watches.... you get the idea.

Therefore, one Apple Watch every few years would almost definitely be cheaper.

Tried to wear my Rolex many times...after about one day, i always go back to Apple Watch, even after 4 years with Series 0. Now that i have Series 4, no chance in hell. :D

I only wear my apple watch now.. i put my traditional watches to rest haha. I hope to use them once in a blue moon though when a fancier event takes place..

Ughh I am a watch guy like many who have replied. I love timekeeping, and the idea of such a marvel of mechanical engineering right on my wrist that provides not complexity to my life. I will say here that over the years in the pre-smartwatch days my more sporting friends would argue that wearing a watch at all was "complicated", which at some point in the past was likely true. All that said, Iahve worn a wristwatch since I was a wee lad when my grandparents presented me with a Timex Quartz with twist-o-flex band. I have ran the gamut since then and not need get into detail there.

Yes I miss wearing a non-connected watch. The problem is the AW has so much utility and once I mastered the simple test of turning off notifications when I need to concentrate I haven't felt enough need to go back. I have owned every iteration of the AW (not every style) since launch, my AW 4 has lasted the longest on my wrist, ordered at launch and still have it on today.

I love the fitness functions but have always been a fit guy so don't really need them to stay in shape, they are more of a novelty for this guy. I wish the watch faces were open to developers, I like some of them, but really would like a more robust selection. I wish the time would display always even if it was dimmed and similar to nightstand mode, but it doesn't seem like Apple and the masses are interested.

What I like that my mechanical watches lack:
I can actually answer a call and can hear and understand the caller and vice versa
I can load my playlist and audio books on the watch, pair my AirPods and go for a jog in my tightest shorts (drink it in)
I can set a timer while cooking, or any other activity that I need to get back to without my phone out of my pocket
I can map my hike/run, not necessary for a hike, but for a geek like me I used to carry a large GPS for this activity along with my phone.
I can control the camera on my phone for photos/videos when on a little tripod, very handy for a variety of things
Glance at the Moon cycle (yes mechs do this but I never liked those styles)
Weather forecast is a glance away
Sunset/Sunrise is a glance away
Time is always spot on!
I can take my own EKG! WTF that's crazy! I am on the wrong side of 40 so my finite life is on my mind more than when I was 20, so this is another win for me
Last but not least Mickey Mouse calls me PAL!

I've had watches through the years but I wore them mostly for looks, nothing more. I don't have anymore watches after I purchased my Series 0. Not going to lie, it's basically my most used Apple product and I have almost everything Apple. I cannot leave my house without my Apple Watch. I just bought a Series 4 and I'm addicted.

Yup same here.

I purchased 12 mechanical watches in the last eight months, which becomes a fairly expensive ‘side hobby’, but in the same respect, I thank the Apple Watch for broadening my horizon on expanding beyond a smart watch, and keeping diversity in both aspects for different occasions. The Apple Watch is a great device, but it serves a different purpose for me.
