I just miss the 24" really. I'm working with a Macbook Pro linked to a 24" LED Cinema Display.

I thought about going to an Imac, but 21,5 would feel small in comparison to what I have now and 27 would be overkill.

A pity really, 24" is just perfect....

What baffles me is why Apple chose such a gap between sizes. 24" seems like the sweet spot to me. Not too big and not too small, and fits most places.

That being said, I'm planning on buying the 21.5" and use it as the secondary monitor to my 24" dell monitor I've already got. and I TOTALLY agree with the guy who mentioned Lion apps being a problem on those big screens... even just playing with it in the app store is a little off putting.

27 27 27 27 27 27 27 27 27

27" hands down, no question!

The uses of the screen real estate continue to multiply. Anyone who writes for a living (fiction or nonfiction) or writes long research papers will really want the larger screen. I use Scrivener. Just a fantastic (and inexpensive) piece of software. In Scrivener, I have the binder, two edit windows--one for what I am writing, the other for research/notes--plus the inspector. When I am doing web design/build, I can have the browser and Dreamweaver both on screen and can instantly see my results.

Depends on the use I would definitely go 27" I love watching movies on my computer.

I actually went down from the 27" to the 21.5".

It was a little jarring at first since I'd been used to working on such a higher resolution for months, but I've gotten very used to the size of the 21.5". I feel very comfortable with it, especially when utilizing Lion's full screen mode and mission control. Count me a very happy 21.5" user here :D

Plus I can easily hook up our Macbook Air via AirDisplay to get additional screen estate if needed.

I’ve never owned a 27” but am loving the 21”. The way I looked at it, I could spend the same amount of money and get an i7 and third party RAM for the 21” or get the baseline 27”. I will take performance over size for my money any day of the week.

Besides, the 21” can do 1080p which is PLENTY for me as I don’t plan to be working with epic RED or 4k footage any time soon.

It’s all personal preference though. If you’re just an average user and don’t need an i7 or 8GB of RAM then why not get the 5.5 extra inches of screen. However if you want more out of your computer there is nothing wrong with a 21.5"

This. Exactly this. Power and performance over the screen. Same reason I went to the 21.5". With the money spent, my i7 and SSD just rocks my last gen 27".

Also, getting all your 1080p video content and gaming in native resolutions without either video degradation or hurting performance is a nice plus.

Yup, totally agree here as well. I think for the user wanting the most power, it's either get the top of the line 27" or go for the 21.5" and add additional displays if need be.

After eight years with a dual-processor G5 Power Mac from 2003 (one of the first made) and a 20" ACD (followed by a 25" Samsung display) on my desk I was getting pretty tired of big heavy pieces of equipment (and all those cables) on my desktop. Bulk. Overkill.

I considered the 27" iMac but took a hard look at the 21.5" model - hey, not bad at all - and so I bought a base model two weeks ago. Sure my new iMac's screen is a bit smaller than the LCD I was using with my old G5 but it suits my needs just fine, the screen is flawless, and in terms of performance it beats the pants off my old system. The 21.5" iMac is dandy and I'm very happy with it.

I have a 24" LED which I use for my Mini. However, I quickly got used to our 21.5" iMac - or I could if the wife would let me near it.

It's took me some 10 days, but I'm finally used to the 27-incher. Most people adjust in a few hours, I've heard, so I'm just slow. Am now definitely going to stick with the monster. Having 2 full windows side-by-side rules (and yes I've tried multiple monitors).

I'm very happy with my 21.5. I use bettersnaptool to have two documents side-by-side and it is plenty big enough.

I'm all about screen size. If you're giving up portability for a desktop, you should make it a monster. I have my 27" iMac hooked up to a 30" Apple Cinema Display. No regrets. I love it. That's 57" for those keeping score.

Got two 21's. I was thinking 27 when I was getting the new 2011 model but for me 27 is just to big. So very happy with the 21 inch size.

+1 for the 21.5" i love mine - my boss has the 27" and also a dell dw27" screen side by side and thats massive...

where i have my mac i wouldn't have room for the 27"...

no regrets at all....
