I've been using Mac laptops since 2004. My main (i.e. desktop) computer is still a PC, running Linux. (I've been Windows-free since early 2002.)

I had a Mac before an iPod or an iPhone.

And i'd assume most of the people here are the same.

But I reckon a lot of switchers are coming in because of the iPhone.

Omi

Really? Why? Kinda odd, just saying.

I am at a point where i'm THINKING about getting a mac, only if to program apps for iPhone..

Been using a PC since DOS and windows 3.1

Never had a Mac, though I have owned an iPhone since it came out in June 2007. Never felt the need to buy a Mac. I'm sure they are wonderful machines and I may get one someday.

But I can get a top of the line PC for 1,000 bucks or less. A Mac will run me twice that and won't be near as powerful as the cheaper pc counterpart.

switched to mac in 2005. Got one of the last G4 powerbooks with IBM CPUs. Great machine, very stable (no wonder, it was the last revision), but on average a bit slow. Anyways, love the freebsd/unix based filesystem. much stabler than all the dll hassle and one never experiences these registry errors, which are so typical in win OS. Upgraded to unibody MBP 15" in dec 2009 and I will stay with mac osx.

had ipods before that, as probably everyone here...

pc(win7 ofc) user and temporary iphone user untill android get some app companies on their side. CUSTOMIZATION FTW
dont lock in a free mind

Bought Mac 6 months after buying the original iphone.
Now have a Macmini and two MBPros. I only use my Macs at home, wife still has to use her PC for work.

I can't say theres anything i miss about the PC, nada.

And here is one of the reasons to not like apple. The retarded apple fanboys like the one above.

What's retarded is implying having to learn the differences between win 98se to 2k and from 2k to xp, xp to vista and vista to win7 is somehow easier then the differences between windows and os x.

You don't get it YET. You can't sum up the total user experience through specs alone. They are a good reference point but what matters is how the hardware (specs & aesthetics) and software come together; which is what mac excels at.

PC (Windows 7) User. I just can't get on with Macs; I find the UI to be less intuitive than Windows (XP and 7) and I don't think that it's all down to familiarity issues.

In terms of OSX vs Windows, I find I that I tend to try OSX shortcuts on my work laptop..drives me nuts! And I hate that I can't scroll just using two fingers on the work laptop.

PC since 1983 (DOS 1.1). Wife has an old G4 (father used to work for Apple back in the 80s), but now uses a Windows 7 machine. I have a MacBook Pro for work.

Windows 7 is actually very nice, and even my wife, who is a BIG Apple fan, has come to the conclusion anyone still saying that Windows sucks hasn't bothered trying to use it (and keep an open mind).

I also run Linux from time-to-time, and am a big fan of it. That's the route everyone should go. :) If it wasn't for the lack of games...

I bought my first Apple ][ as a kid in 1981. It is still set up and running next to my 24" iMac. The living room has the 13" Aluminum MacBook. We are about to ditch DirecTV in favor of running a Mac Mini HTPC.

Windows free since...., well forever.

Notice how many PC users are also Jun/July 2010 MR newbies. the halo effect will hit you one day.:)

I personally know 3 (maybe 4) people who I doubt that will happen. My roommate who gets annoyed anytime he's used my Mac (but he's never used it enough to get over the not used to it factor) but he's had an iphone for 2 years and never shown any compunction to try a Mac, my friend who bought a mac to program iphone apps with (and I don't even see that mac lying around anymore, I kinda wonder if he stopped. But even having a mac didn't convert him), his wife, and my mom (who just got an iphone but has always been a PC is better kinda person).

It happens.

It may be. If you are so used to the Windows environment you may be more used to how they do things and it is more intuitive to you how they do it. I mean I've used a PC as my only computer a few times in my life and I still find Mac more intuitive (or maybe not even that but just overall I prefer Mac). But one could argue that's cause I've pretty much used Macs my whole life and grew up using them so that's really the architecture I'm used to.

What I will say though is that I honeslty don't see why they are so different anyone has a problem switching from one to the other honestly. And I will give Windows that (well at least one point, don't know if it is true now), you can practically do everything with the keyboard if you want to. That's nice. Though Mac honestly has much improved on that front (I think that was more a weakness pre-OSX).

Love the iPhone, but i'm a gamer first, therefore i pretty much don't even bother looking at Macs (Win 7 user). I acknowledge that it definitely holds its own, but [as realized by how Apple runs a tight ship with the iPhone] i like to do my own thing.

Customization doesn't hold a candle to a PC, but if I'd have the money, I'd definitely have both a PC/Macbook or a PC/iPad, since that would be the best of both worlds.

bought first mac in 2004 and have been using macs as my primary home computer since. still have pc's at home and work, though.

iphone 4 is my first iphone

I purchased my 1st my Mac which was the black Macbook in 2006. A few months ago I upgraded to a MB Pro. I have a PC at home at I only use when I have to work from home or when I don't feel like breaking out my MB Pro. My MBs have been great to me especially for DJing. I'm contemplating gettin an iPad in a month or so.
