I think people's usage is only going to increase, especially with iOS4.

A couple of Netflix movies or a few days with Pandora running in the background would start eating up that bandwidth.

I have an original (ie. Edge only) iPhone and I'm using 100-150MB/month, even though I'm on WiFi both at home and at work, so I am out of WiFi range only for a couple of hours a week day and a large part of the weekend (even then, a lot of the place we go, like the kids' gymnastics, has free WiFi).

I can see this increasing with 3G and some of those new apps out there. So I'm keeping unlimited, at least for a while.

I gotta keep it. I don't use 2gb right now, but what if they change FaceTime to 3G use? What if some app comes out that's awesome that uses huge data? There's no telling what the future holds so I'll hang on to unlimited as long as they'll let me.

I often get close to 2 gigs, but have always stayed under. With the new things in iPhone 4, however, I think there is a pretty good chance my data usage will go up, and saving $5 a month isn't worth losing unlimited for me.

I upgraded 2 lines to iphone 4, i kept my primary one with unlimited, but dropped my back up/ home one to the 15 buck plan.
i rarely go ever 200, but in the last 2 years we have had week long power outages each year, and it spikes big time then.

plus i have an ipad 3g which is unlimited, i dont need 3 unlimiteds

I'm definitely keeping unlimited data! It's one of the reasons I decided to stick with AT&T and not wait for a Verizon iPhone (though, I reserve the right to switch if Verizon eventually has appealing terms).

Personally, I think a large percentage of folks that are going to surrender their unlimited data to save $5 are going to end up regretting it down the road. The only question will be, how far down the road??

Here's a question. I want to add a line to my account...will they make me go to one of the new plans to do so or will I still be able to keep the unlimited data?

Most of the month, I use around 300MB per month. When I tethering using MyWi (mostly when I am traveling), I see I am using over 200M per day just web browsing....

I will never give up my unlimited just to save $5/month. 2G/month may sound a lot now, but with multitasking coming to iOS4, and having skype and other apps load in the background 24/7. I think it will easily go over 2G/month!! :D

Don't look back! Look Forward! ;)

I would suggest you keep the unlimited for a couple more months to see if that data use history continues w/ the iP4. Then you can make an informed decision. You can always go to a new data plan, you can never get unlimited back.

This is me. I THINK I'll be down-grading eventually, but I'm sure as heck not going to do it before August.

I want to see how things shake down and end up working out for everyone else.

Once it's gone, it can't come back.

The simple reason why I'm keeping mine.

Exactly. I'm sure my data usage will only continue to rise as more apps and features are introduced. The $5 premium (that I've been paying anyway) is worth it.

The most data I've ever used over the past few months is 148 MBs. I'm using WiFi both at home and at work, so at this time I could very easily drop down to the $15/month plan, but I won't...just yet anyway. I'll see how my usage is once I get the iPhone 4 and decide then.

Personally, I think those of us with unlimited data plans have a DUTY to use more than 2GB per month!! Why? Because that will skew AT&T's averages and they will no longer be able to say "95% of our users use less than 2GB per month" as an excuse to eliminate the unlimited plan.

You guys think Unlimited will ever come back?

No.

If you really want or need it, I read a post here that said you can get a original iPhone (eBay), activate it with AT&T with the unlimited data plan, and then upgrade to the 4 and keep unlimited data. Apparently unlimited data is the only option on the original. Don't quote me on that though. I'll try to find the thread where I read this.

Even if that were an option (which I doubt), the 2G iPhone was deemed seperate from any 3G data capable phones. So Everyone who upgraded to the 3g from the 2g had to get the new +10 dollar plan. You'd be forced to get one of the new limited plans.

Follow these instructions 100%.

Insert a new never been used sim into the iPhone. Restore the iPhone in itunes. Once the restore is done, iTunes will then prompt you to activate your brand new iPhone :). Follow the instructions and in minutes, your iPhone will be activated with an unlimited data plan and whatever minute plan you choose. You'll have to use that sim in the original iPhone until you get the new iPhone activated. If you try using that sim in a 3G/3GS iPhone, you risk AT&T automatically switching you to a 3G plan automatically.

If you need anything on the iPhone when you first get it, you can back it up in iTunes first, then restore it and proceed to activate the iPhone as i mentioned above. Once the phone is activated, you can restore your backup by right clicking on the iPhone in iTunes and select restore from backup.

I've been using over 5GB for the past several months. It was mainly because I felt I was being charged a high rate so why not use it.

When my next billing cycle starts though next week, which is perfect timing cause I'll have my iPhone 4. I'm going to just use the device normally and see how it goes.

If I don't come close to 200MB I'll change my plan, maybe..

The thing is, I really think with the new iPhone I'll be sending a lot more media content while I'm out.

Will have to give a month and see how it goes.

I think you should ask, what idiot is dropping the unlimited plan, because they worry about today and not the future?

keep it.

pice of mined, and bad expireance with at&t went to a trip over sea bought 200mb data, what a mass......
don't trust att I am wandering how many people that used so far less then 200mb suddenly will find them self being charge for much more, and go fight with att.

I'm keeping it. If only for the fact that I see no reason why data usage will stay at it's current levels. I use about 800 - 1g per month and I feel like it wont take much more to push me over 2 gigs especially with being able to run apps in the background.

I'd say at the very least don't drop it until you've had some time to look at what iOS 4 does to your usage.

3 word reason I'm keeping unlimited: uploading HD video.

the iPhone 4 will definitely be a resource hog, and AT&T wants to capitalize on that. I wouldn't be surprised if their (real) numbers expect 98% of users to be below 3gb instead of 2, so they get at least an additional 5 bucks a month per overage account.

I agree with majority of the above. wait and see

My avg over the past 1 1/2 years is about 190MB a month, but when I look at my last 6 months history my avg is about 400MB a month, with the last couple months being the highest. That shows me that I am using much more data than I used to.

So I will wait for these reasons
A) to see if the trend continues
B) usage WILL rise with multitasking, netflix (although I don't have an account and I haven't decided If/when I will get one), eventual facetalk on 3g (or skype on 3g), and HD video uploads
C) I would almost surely be on the $25 plan anyway so the $5 loss is minimal for a few months

if you are upgrading to iPhone 4 i would wait
when you get a new phone you will use it A LOT more often for the first few months, and then who knows what difference iPhone 4 will have with apps that use data and whatnot, if you are upgrading I'd wait, if not you may as well drop if you don't plan on tethering
