I have an iPhone 3G (didn't feel the upgrade to the new 3GS was worth it at the time). I'd love to get the new HTC Sprint EVO 4G. However, I would hate to give up all the app's I've acquired in the last year or two, and then have to re-buy similar ones on the EVO. Plus, I like the storage on the iPhone much better, so, I'll probably stick with the iPhone and buy the new one coming out in a few weeks.

Plus, no WiMAX in Phoenix, so the 4G is somewhat wasted till they get further into the 4G rollout.

My top reasons are that,

1. I am used to it 100%

2. It's so user-friendly, and it basically has my general functions that I use everyday. (Phone, Music for my car, email for work, text-that is functional, applications that are essential to my life)

I dont see any other cell phone providing the accommodations that the iphone gives me.

It is just simple to me.

Note I believe the 3Gs was a waste, therefore I did not buy it. I still have my 3G, until the new iPhone arrives this June.

I am tied into the Apple environment meaning that my iPhone experience coincides with my Mac experience. It's easy to use and is an excellent tool for work and entertainment. With that said, I am tied to the Mac but not necessarily the iPhone. Apple needs to push software updates at a faster rate and needs to blow me away with more revolutionary hardware updates if they are going to keep up with the competition. The EVO is the first competitor that has me seriously thinking about switching. Again, the Sprint network doesn't excite me but it is just as strong as AT&T in the areas in which I live and work.

I wouldn't say the iPhone experience is becoming stale just doesn't excite me like it used to.

I felt the same way as you until I upgraded my 3G to a 3GS via eBay. The difference is night and day. The 3GS is what the 3G should have been from the beginning.

iPhone is great but there are really people who just wanted something new. It's a normal thing because human being really is never contented. :)

keeping with the iphone more for convenience than being used to it i think. competitors are starting to kick it up and the iphone is not going to be blowing anybody out of the water with its specs but as others have noted the environment as whole is great and will continue to be improved.

that said convenience is definitely one of the major reasons i am sticking to the iphone.

i am starting to worry about the OCD amount of control apple is placing on its mobile platforms but that is to be expected and will most likely continue, if it gets out of hand i may switch eventually, but i am not at that point yet and will be purchasing the next iphone.

convenience factors:
syncing
itunes movie rentals
previously purchased apps
peripherals
dealing with apple for support (at the store and by phone)

Why am I staying with the iPhone?

I'll admit, I like Android. Enough that I experimented with a Nexus One for a little over a week. Buggy touchscreen and some odd 3G reception issues (the AT&T version), and more difficult to sync with my existing setup. As a handset, it felt well made. Android 2.1 ran well and I REALLY enjoyed Google Maps, especially when I was running flower deliveries trying to help out my mate's fiance on Valentine's Day.

I'm sticking with an iPhone because I've never had an Apple product feel cheaply constructed. Have you played with an Incredible lately? Lovely screen but I just couldn't get into the cheap plastic. The new iPhone probably (based on existing rumors) has a glass back (durability) and after two years of hard labor, the screen on my 3G is still scratch free. The multitouch works better. It syncs flawlessly, I have fun apps and games and my music collection.

I'm REALLY interested in Android but I stay with the iPhone for 2 reasons. I don't think Android is mature enough for me, the iPhone is the just the ultimate refined user experience, and two because android phone makers no likey canada so much, also not a fan of the fragmentation, I'd only get a google phone.

I'll definitely try one out next year, maybe 2 years but I'll wait for the OS to mature and develop. They're on a great path though.

alot of people don't understand how the Iphone really is a polished OS. People lately have been going over the "freedom" of android but basically freedom is only good if you have the tools to take advantage of that freedom.

The iphone may be limited in terms of what Apple lets to do, but one thing is for sure, whatever they choose to do, you will guarantee that its seemless, polished and smooth.

As i spend the days contemplating if I will get an Android phone. I'm actually moving a step back, not forward. What's visually getting to me is the sense UI. It doesn't help that the iphone os really hasn't changed in the past 3 years. As far as I can tell it's not going to change anytime soon.

But as much as I like change and something different, Apple shouldn't be changing much. If you compare feature my feature (not threw reading) but physically holding both an android phone and and iphone. It's truly amazing how much polish the OS has. Small details that just seemed to be skipped on the Android and that gives me a level of trust and reliability on the phones part. That Apple has take the time to carefully look at the smallest detail. How can you not be proud of a developer that tries to master it's craft.

I also talked in length about pitch and zoom. Android may have it, but its definitely not working as smoothing. EVEN on snapdragon. Optimization is the key world and for Apple they only have to worry about one CPU or maybe 2. The transitions moving it and how are flawless, smooth. Android, they are not...smooth at times, but i do notice a frame drop (trust me, I turned off ALL background apps and cleared the memory).

Same can be said of internet browsing, I hate the wrapping feature android phones have. It's utterly annoying. I want to double tap...let it zoom and read it just find. I want the double to be only a magnifying glass. I don't need Google's presentation of the same text, just because i over zoomed. That's my problem, not yours google. Or atleast make it an option to turn off. The zooming has the same problem as maps. CPU is not optimized with the android so you do get times of 1 frame stuttering. Also, scrolling is no where as smooth and the iphone has HALF the RAM!!.

One thing I love about android phones is the search and voice to search is awesome. Simply amazing. I love opening maps and casually saying what I want and it comes up. I don't have to type. Because typing, is a pitch laggy at times and is NO WHERE AS ACCURATE as the iphone keyboard. This isn't just an opinion i share. Many reviews agree with this. iphone keyboard is the standard and always will be.

The apps, its not even close. I have a list of every iphone app and tried to find a replacement on android. I can only find half. And of the ones i found, the quality of the app is no where as close. It's kinda ridiculous. There some apps that are awesome on the Android like the dave chappel photo app. but I like productivity and iphone gives me options that android wishes it has. This should change in the future, but the question i have is...do android users even pay for apps? I think more iphone users are inclined to pay for a premium app then android users. then what does that say about the user models. Developers NEED to make money and if a million android users aren't buying as much as 100,000 iphone users. Well...iphone still wins.

Iphone is has one device. One device for all manufacturers to create hardware around. Its not question, iphone owns the accessory space. Docking systems, car systems, you name it. And I like knowing i have options.

Music player. This isn't even a contest. The naming of iphone really is the combination of Ipod + phone. The Ipad makes much a large chunk in why it was given a 8GB flash drive to start. It's a music player at heart. It's the reason why I dumped my creative zen and just carry my phone around to listen to music. and I listen to ALOT of music. It's by far the best music player and its not even close. Everywhere I scroll on the android, i see that 1 second framerate shutter. Coming from an iphone, its basically standout like a sore thumb. And the double tap to have your ipod controls on the locked screen is one of the best features ever. How about the fact that apple actually logs the resistive values of each contact. so you have have different contacts in the headphone socket, the volume adjusts according. That's what I call polish.

Okay I ranted like a fanboy. I'll say this. 3 years ago, when i first used the iphone, i considered it the greatest consumer device ever purchased or atleast in the past 15 years. And for 3 years i have been loyal is at comes to the iphone. The Android has so much potential because the cloud based systems you can have but the issue is its not like windows. You can't dump a bunch of hardware. Google needs to set standards on hardware so they can start optimizing. More importantly, I told everyone who had a G1 or a droid to wait. Because the OS is too powerful for the hardware and so far, i'm still correct. Soon, the android will get there. They will have a mobile processor that trump any type of optimization because it just pwns. But I don't know when that will be.

Apple has proven to me that on an inferior processor, they can still manage to keep the UI smooth. And everything just works, i haven't really complained much about my iphone.

To each to his/her own. If you want a change from the redundancy of having the same OS for 3 years then gladly change. It's not like you will see much change in the Android in 3 years. They have established that as their base. Yes things might get more colorful but the framework of both phones will still be the same. The question is what do you want. Are you comfortable with your phone? Do you truly hate your carrier? What's making you jump ship?

For me I'm 50-50 jumping ship. and I'm only doing it because I want to see what these Android users are talking about it. I'm trying to bash them until i have been in their shoes. I have spent hours in the verizon store playing with the incredible just to get an idea. I was planning on running a 30 day trial to see how it goes. but what am I going to be impressed with the network or the iphone.

All i know is Android users talk about the OS like its Ice cream. "OMG!!! its so good, OMG maps!!! and apps and like...a toggle to turn off your wifi...oh the ice cream"

Well iphone users been eating that ice cream for 3 years...and its not baskin robbins...it's hagen dazs.

p.s.

I think WEB OS pwns all.....Damn you palm. I had hope!!!!

I think I will stick with the iPhone, even though Google's wireless syncing sounds very appealing: automatically send mp3s from your computer to your phone. I hope Apple can match that somehow.

I haven't really used Android, except for a few minutes on friends' phones, so take my comments with a grain of salt.

People focus on the feature list and forget the polish and the entirety of the user experience. Compare copy/paste between Android and the iPhone. What a difference!

Technically, is there copy/paste? Yes, there is, but it's more of a pain in the ass to use on Android.

Think about the signup process for the original iPhone, where you could create a new AT&T account so easily in the comfort of your own home (and port a number, too!) That truly shows that Apple designed the user experience from the very first moment.

I am a software engineer (geek at heart), so it is tempting to try Android for the extra hackability, but I use my phone every day and I'm not sure how much time I want to spent tinkering with it.

i'm probably going to stay with the iphone as my primary phone because i don't like carrying two devices (phone and ipod).... but i wouldn't mind trying other phones haha but i guess i'm turning into an apple fanboy now :p

I can relate to you. I tried the N1 for AT&T. Felt the same as you. In every aspect. HTC makes there products how they do for a certain crowd well not HTC, google should I say with Android. Apple makes there product for the crowd they already have. Those who have always used iPhones. Will most likely keep using them because the users know what they're getting. I like what I'm getting more than I would with any other device.

well I am putting my iphone in for recycling to get some extra money for next iPhone. I'm now using a sony ericsson and boy am I lost without my iPhone lol I liked it's convinience to access stuff like twitter and facebook and play games...... I really want the new iPhone to hurry along now lol

i wish i could make up my mind. i like the iphone. it's a great phone, the browser is smooth, the touchscreen works flawlessly, the keyboard is a breeze to type on etc etc, but a few things bug me. i'm going to mention flash here. i know 90% of people on this forum hate flash for whatever reason, be it because they dont like browser plugins, they only have a mac (i've never had an issue with it on any iteration of windows) or just because Steve said so, whatever. but if there's one thing i hate, its that i have to say "i can't view that link, i'm on my iphone".

other things that bug me is apples stance on the app store. no, not porn. the wifi sync app that someone made and apple denied, the task managers that all got pulled despite the iphone needing something (ipod and safari use up a lot or RAM, and so do other things that sbssettings -> processes -> "free up memory" clears). lack of customization is another. fat icons on a black screen? man is that dull to look at. no custom email and SMS tones? when did i travel back to 1995?

still, the positives keep me somewhat hooked. and jailbreak makes the phone what it should be, but i dont like that i have to reply on a third party to keep cracking the phone so i can use it exactly how i want. if android could just fix 2 key things id be all over it... OS updates, and touch screen. HTC are too slow rolling out updates thanks to sense, and the touch screen HTC uses is too hit and miss after using an iphone. my perfect phone would be a mix of iphone OS and android. until we get something that takes the best from both i'm going to be stuck on the fence between the 2 OS's.
