Despite feeling lighter, the weight reduction is nominal. But compacting that weight into a thinner device certainly makes it feel much lighter than it is by comparison to previous air.

I gave my ipad 3 to my dad when i got my air 2. i picked up the 3 the yesterday and omg the difference was extremely noticeable
 
I am not shocked, the trend for tablets is towards being lighter.

Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro models
Samsung Galaxy Tab S models
Kindle Fire HDX 8.9"
Sony Xperia tablets, most of them.

Yep, I get around.
 
iPad 4 or earlier will be a startling difference.

I really don't see how you can notice a difference going form an Air to an Air 2. 0.04 pounds, as someone in another thread pointed out, is the weight of a snickers candy bar. I doubt you'd notice that.

It's the Mass. It's science. lol
 
My iPad Air and Air 2 are both in Apple leather cases. I don't know if it is due to the weight or size, but I definitely notice a difference. The Air 2 is easier to handle.
