Are you superstitious? If so how.

I don't consider myself superstitious, yet I knock wood on things, and I noticed that I was worried that I may jinxed something when I started to talk about it.

Yeah, that's silly, and its not logical, but still...

So does anyone else have superstitions?

I don't believe in luck or superstition, but due to the prevalence of urban legends and traditions in our culture I do think about things briefly if I encounter them. (black cat crossing your path, broken mirrors, walking under a ladder, etc.) By no means do these things affect how I live or the choices I make, but I do notice them.

From what I've read some of the most superstitious people around are professional athletes. You know the old "lucky socks" or "not washing the uniform before a game". I've heard crazy things about what some athletes do to keep the same routine or not jinx a streak. Silly stuff if you ask me. 😀

No. I think people can make superstitions a self-fulfilling prophecy by the psychological power those people give their superstitions.

Ooh, good point renewed. I'm going to go check all the mega threads and start blocking all member's who were post number 666. 😀

Way ahead of you. That and posters #665 and #667. They were one away from bursting into flames and anyone who will risk that doesn't sit right with me.

Only when it comes to the lottery. Always have to play everyday... always have to buy two new scratch offs.... always have to replay with any money won under hundred bucks. Wait... is that a superstition or do I have a gambling problem?

UM i won't get out of bed unless one of the numbers is even

like 6:10am, or 6:20 won't get out of bed if it is like 6:19 etc

I'm not, I don't really see the point in believing in the unprovable. Same with religion.

Exactly the same view. I used to be when I was growing up, but you just grow out of it don't you, like Santa, Tooth Fairy etc etc. When you look back on it you think to yourself "I really believed that??".

I believe all things happen for a reason and usually i find a GOOD reason for them happening. Maybe that's just my way of looking at life! 🙂

Well it's a bit different kid's believing stuff their parents tell them, especially when it's something magical and they get 'cool' things like presents or money out of it. But I can't imagine anybody still believing in things like that as a teenager, so why do superstitions or religions stick in people's minds? <Shrug> that's just the way I look at it.

When finishing up bball, I need to swish a free throw

You can swish a free throw on command? I'm impressed!

I do everything you do and much much more; I think I'm borderline OCD it's kinda sad. The thing is though, the times I have taken that pair of lucky socks or knocked on wood my outcome turns out to be skewed in my favor. Irrational logic? Def yes! 😀

Not even close.

In fact, I wish they were still building high-risers with the 13th floor. I was always hoping to snag a good deal on a nice condo there. 🙂

See I grew up being superstitious because my parents taught me them, black cats, no going under ladders etc etc. and then as I grew up I realised how silly it all sounded and how it's no more than just fairy tales (hence my reference to the TF & SC etc etc)

Erm, I think your problem is much more a lack of understanding about even numbers than superstition. 6 is even. 😉

About the most superstitious I get is playing 10 and 7 every roll in roulette. Other than that, I do have a lucky shirt that I play golf in, one that I won a big tournament in a few years back in college.
