My Nextel/Sprint 2 year contract expires in three days...What timing..:D Wanted an Iphone since they came out, as luck would have it, Ill get one next month :p:p

I'm not upgrading. It doesn't offer anything I want and looks gimmicky. I'm fine with v1. I may upgrade when they have the bugs ironed out. I don't want to be a beta tester.

There are no pictures of the new iphone so I'm not sure how you have concluded that it looks gimmicky. It's also not clear why the v2 software would be more buggy than the phone you have now considering the only substantive change is likely to be hardware and not software.

I will be passing on my iPhone to my mom. She wants an a smartphone, but is too intimidated by others.

I plan to get the iPhone 3G a couple months after it's released. Sometime in august-september.

Now that lots of my friends have gotten a Blackberry and I actually use Blackberry Messenger, I will certainly not be switching. It's the greatest thing ever.

Yes, but only because of my cracked screen. If not for that I would be sticking with my 1st gen which i (up until the crakced screen) i was very content with. On the other hand, if the next iPhone doesn't look nice or isn't what im looking for, ill be getting a refurb first gen.

Yes, I will be upgrading.

Why? Because my wife, who wanted no part of the iPhone when we both upgraded in November, now things her Cherry LG Chocolate sucks and can't keep her hands off my iPhone.

So, I'll be getting a new JesusPhone 2.0 within a month of it being released, and she'll get the old one.

Nice deal for me, as it turns out....

Ay, I bet that was your plan from the start.

Actually, it's probably going to be a bigger software change. Yes, it will look mostly the same, but it's going to have so much more to it with all the new software and the App Store. With the software updates, we're really going to see what the hardware is capable of (I don't think it's going to work the other way: the hardware showing off the software).

Granted, I have personally been waiting for this coming generation of hardware before I really considered getting the iPhone, it's the software upgrades that are pegging me as a soon-to-be iPhone owner. The software is what is really going to make this a great new update for the iPhone (and rejuvenate the first generation hardware).

indeed. it's all about firmware 2.0. my experience with the betas has shown me just how wonderful the software can be. i can't wait until the final release! it's worth it for the calendar alone for me. i am itching for the day i go to sync and itunes prompts me for a firmware update...

I will. I need 3G and GPS. Going to sell my current gen to help pay for it.

- only use location features when I'm lost. That means total position info or nothing. I feel the current system is rubbish, and GPS would fix it up well.
- I use my iPhone for tethering a lot. So 3G would make it all much more usable.

I can sell the current gen for over £200 on eBay (perfect condition, just like new), so the next model will cost less than £100. Apple like to update products without updating the price. I just hope O2 have the same policy :S

cool I finished counting and it looks like more people are planning to upgrade. nice thoughts by the way

I will definitely be buying the new iPhone, I've been itching to get one since they were released here in Nov (1st gen), but I was only 10 months into an 18 month contract with T-Mobile(UK). I currently have a win mo phone (tytn/hermes) and find the software rather clumsy, and the hardware, although has most things (3g included) it doesn't seem very well implemented, almost like everything was just lumped together. I have an ipod touch so I'm well aware of what the iPhone is capable of (even more capable next month). I actually nearly bit the bullet in Feb. and was going to buy a 1st gen, and pay 2 contracts until the 18 months were up (Yes I know I could have jailbroken it, but I do that with my touch and hate waiting on someone else to figure it out for each fw release, even then it was often buggy),then I started reading rumours (on this site infact) that a 2nd gen iPhone was on the horizon, so I figured a few more months waiting isn't going to kill me, I would have hated to have bought one, only for a newer one to outdate it after a few months. It's always good advice to avoid disappointment to do a little research before you drop your cash.

Neil.

P.S typed all that out on my winmo phone, took bloody ages yet has a qwerty keyboard....

Upgrading

Definitely upgrading, can't wait. :]

We're pretty sure the 2nd gen iPhone will arrive some where next month, but the question is are you upgrading or not and why.
By hearing different opinions I'm sure this thread will help us decide what to do, sell our iPhone now or just keep it and forget the new gen.

Amazing the people here who will not be upgrading because they dont like the look or spec of the new phone!

I got the 8gb for £169 and think its brilliant, sold my Nokia N95 with no regrets and I liked that phone!

Am so impressed with the Apple Way that I am considering going totally Apple and dumping my buggy Vista laptop and going over to the other side.

Will most definately be getting the new iPhone and possibly sooner than people think.

;-)

I'm similar to you, just owning an ipod touch is making me consider dumping everything microsoft and going all apple, I'm just amazed by Apples design..hardware & software. I've been reading as much as I can about the company and it's products, both past and present and upcoming products/rumours

Nice thread btw.

I won't. I just got mine in January and don't see anything worth the upgrade.

Here, let me fix that for you:

I probably won't. I just got mine in January and I don't see anything worth the upgrade in all of the rumors, guesses and fantasies that I've read regarding the potential release of the next iPhone in the near future. But since no one outside of a select few Apple and AT&T executives and engineers have seen the finished product and know the details regarding upgrades, who knows?

:D

No.

1, Just expanded Edge coverage here - so the iPhone I have is working better than ever.

2. Not going to even think about it until it is certain that they have not cut costs and put some lousy negative-black-weird-color-balance screen in the new batch.

3. Being made redundant next week - so I don't see me having the cash to but one anyway.
