Wow, there sure are a lot of people getting fired up just because a few of us like to watch keynotes. Try it sometime, it's fun.

I enjoy watching the keynotes. I even re-watch old ones on Youtube. Jobs was a master presenter! I think the debut of the original iPhone, and the first Macbook Air are my favourites.

But taking a day off work?! I just take too much pride in my job and my professionalism to sit at home on my butt just to watch someone talk about a phone. I'm a teacher, and the school year just started. I think I would be doing a real disservice to my students and acting quite selfishly if I phoned in sick on the second day of class.

Not all of us work in big stuffy jobs where we have to show up and sit at a desk. Don't poop yourself because we're in a different professional environment than you.

With a job like yours, of course you don't want to miss work. And I commend you and thank you for your work as a teacher.

WOW. I look forward to the keynotes too.....But taking a day off? Nah.

I will say that I can not afford to take a day off to watch this event. The way it works at my job is we are on a point system, and I have definitly missed to many days of work this year to call in sick for this event tomorrow. I will say that because I have an awesome job, I will be watching it from my desk at work!

No...I work nights...

But even if I did work during the day, Flipboard would keep me plenty informed while at work.

The difference is you're a teacher you can't really take a day of when you like, as you normally have you holidays planned out by the terms of the year. Some of us can take a day off as holiday that has been allocated by a company. It has nothing to do with professionalism its our holiday and we can choose to use when and how we want.

BUT

luckily for me I finish at 15:00 most days, so I never miss one :)

Funny, but I'm doing the opposite. I'm on vacation the entire month of Sept. and I was looking to put in some hours at work tomorrow - 9/9. I'm so glad this isn't my year to upgrade. I forgot today was the BIG unveil.

Sorry if I came off as judgmental with that remark about professionalism. You're right. While teachers do have sick days and personal days, taking days off is not something that we usually do without very good cause since our vacation time is set in stone, and if we're away during the school year it's not like we can just cancel our classes. That means still having to provide work for the substitute, and our students fall behind because they never get as much done with a sub. Basically, I feel like not going to work actually ends up being more work!

I can imagine how it feels, the other half is a teacher!

Government doesn't know how to run schools, teachers need more control over the schools, less paperwork more teaching in class! I think that's the right thing to say....

anyway that's a discussion for another thread :)

Keep up with good work in schools!

It's not often being in the UK has benefits with tech-related events, but this is one of them!

Keynote is at 6pm UK, so I'll finish at about 4.30pm and have plenty of time to get myself settled and ready.

It's at 7pm where I'm from, so it's no problem. I would never take the day off because of it, I am a huge apple-fan, but not that huge... (If I was working, I would probably just stay off the net for a while and wait for the video DL)

I'm one of the ones that said they were planning on taking today off. There seems to be many who make assumptions that everybody who schedules time off is somehow shirking their duty at work. I have a flexible schedule, I'm not an hourly worker, and my one (scheduled) day off this week was Labor Day Monday (USA). I worked some that day anyway and I worked late last night knowing that I was going to take most if not all of today off.

If there's an event I'm passionate about I'm going to do what it takes to be able to see it. I'm fortunate that my schedule is flexible as long as the work gets done.

Even tho I live in the UK and it airs at 6pm when I finish work at 5pm. I'd never take a day off for a keynote. I take days off for a big game launch that I know i will play but I wouldnt take the day off to watch E3 or Gamescom for example. Press conferences are not worth the holiday use...

Halo 5 is the next game i'm certainly taking days off for, loved the beta so much.

I intend on upgrading form my iPhone 6 to the 6S but i wont be watching the keynote tonight as i can just catch all the details on this site for example.

I plan on watching it or at least listening to the live feed while at my work desk. I can take an extended lunch.
