Thank you for the explanation. I installed TinyUmbrella, connected my iPad 2 and saved the 4.3 blob. I have a question though, is the blob that I saved unique to my device and the reason why I wouldn't be able to just use someone else's saved blob?

I also don't understand why I'm allowed to save my blob right now, but you stated that I may only have minutes to save my blob. Why wouldn't I be allowed to save it later on? I'm confused, because I just connected my Jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 4.2.1 to Tiny Umbrella, and it saved SHSH blobs 4.0.1, 4.0.2, 4.1, 4.2b3, and 4.3

No, you cannot use another person's blob. It is unique to your device, not just to the version of iOS.

You can save your blob because apple is still signing 4.3. You won't be able to do this shortly.

SHSH's from your Jailbroken iPhone 4 for each of those probably showed up because Cydia was saving them for you. You cannot get blobs for any of those (besides 4.3) anymore because apple is not signing them anymore. But if Cydia was backing them up for you, you will have them.

technically, if you leave the defaults on, cydia will cache al your future blobs for you :)

Right, all you do is click "make my life easier" and you're set.. It amazes me how many people do not click that.

Lol. You don't have Cydia unless your jailbroken... Which for the iPad 2 is not released yet.

They are saying save the blobs just incase the jailbreak soon to be released is for 4.3 and not 4.3.1.

I meant in tiny umbrella. It requests it from cydia, which will request future ones.

I am most definitely not upgrading.. I'm very anxious to jailbreak and will stay on 4.3 unless 4.3.1 is jailbreakable as well as 4.3.

Saving Your Blob with Tiny Umbrella is a Good way to Keep track of your iDevice serial #'s etc too.

I think I was lucky enough yesterday to save my blobs for 4.3

I am w/ this one.. Most desparate for JB.

Although battery on current 4.3 is bit, underwhelming.

Certainly not. I rely on Jailbreak on my iPad a lot more than my iPhone these days so I won't be doing anything to jeopardize being able to jailbreak as soon as possible. If Comex/MuscleNerd etc come out and say its safe to as they have an exploit then I will for the sake of it, but only then.

Ok, looks like I missed the boat for getting 4.3 blobs saved - I just tried with tiny umbrella, and it saved 4.3.1 blobs as Apple has stopped signing 4.3.

What does this mean for my iPad 2 in terms of any future jailbreak? I'm guessing it means if the future jailbreak is for 4.3 only, and not 4.3.1, I'm screwed if it's the type of jailbreak that requires a Restore?

Ok so just to verify, I updated my ipad 2 already after reading this forum.:( Is it too late to save the HSHS thing for 4.3?

Also, just to clear things up, it was only to back up 4.3 for when you jail break that version, correct?

Here's a completely different question, Let says I jail break the ipad2, I bought warranty for it, I know if you jail break it, it will void the warranty. Is there a way you can set it back to factory setting and the mac people won't be able to tell that you have ever hacked it?

And please don't give me stories, I need proof, 1st hand experience, someone who knows, if you're not sure don't repsond. I hear that jail breaking leaves like a watermark on the ipad2, letting apple techs know. Is this true, cause if it is the case, I need to see about returning that warranty.

Thanks All!

jailbreak option out for me?

I've been waiting since christmas to jailbreak b/c everyone said to wait for untethered hack. Now I'm a few days late on the tiny umbrella, which I just read I have to have for warranty, so I guess jail breaking is out for me?
All I want is internet on my ipad and I am under contract w/ T-mobile for my phone. My ipad is pretty useless unless I am at home (where I have a computer if I want to use internet). Wish he'd gotten me a nook or something, what a waste of money

It appears Apple is not signing 4.3 any longer.

Yeah, I must've missed the window...

I just tried TinyUmbrella and it says 'iPad2WIFI 4.3.1'... but I didn't even update to 4.3.1, so i'm not exactly sure what that..

my iOS version is still 4.3.. at least to my knowledge..

no biggie though.. :D

Definitely! Do a factory restore (which sets it back to how it came out of the box) and walk it up in the Apple Store none the wiser...

conversely, if something were to happen to the jailbreak, a factory restore gives you a clean slate to start from... it's like shaking an Etch-A-Sketch and starting all over.. so you'd have to really work hard to 'muck it up'... unless you're talking about a hardware malfunction..

I've got a stupid question about SHSH's that I probably already know the answer to. A while ago I had a 16GB wifi ipad that i saved the 4.2.1SHSH for. I just recently picked up a 32GB and without a choice had to update it to 4.3.1 to get multi-tasking (a rather big deal for me). Can I use the old SHSH on the new iPad? They both were linked to the same Apple account. I'm guessing no but it never hurts to ask.

You can't, but the 4.3.1 untethered jailbreak for iPad 1 will be out any day now.

I have the same question as well. I bought an iPad 2 on launch day, and having read this thread, when I get home tonight, I'll install TinyUmbrella and save my SHSH blobs (not too sure what it means, but I think I understand).

Anyway, I purchased five more iPads, with expected delivery in 3-4 weeks from now. I'm worried that they'll come pre-installed with iOS 4.3.1 and if the impending jailbreak only works on 4.3, I'm screwed. The iPad 2 I bought on launch day is personal (and still has iOS 4.3 installed - I won't upgrade until we learn more about the jailbreak). But, the five iPad 2's I'm expecting to receive need to be jailbroken as well - I'm customizing them for my company (i.e. would like to remove all the icons, change the few icons that we'll leave intact, remove the "swipe to unlock" screen, etc.)

If I get my SHSH blobs from my PERSONAL iPad 2 (in my possession now), can I use that to "downgrade" the iOS on the five iPad 2's I'm expecting to receive (again, assuming the jailbreak doesn't work on iOS 4.3.1).

Also, I'm assuming here that the iPad 2's I'll rec. will have iOS 4.3.1 installed (I'm guessing that Apple implements that iOS at the factory once it goes "gold"?).

Any advice would be much appreciated. :)

You don't need to jailbreak your iPad to get internet, you need a phone or other device that can serve as a personal hotspot. Or you need a 3G iPad and pay AT&T or Verizon the monthly data fee. But either way, jailbreaking the iPad isn't going to help you with this.

You must have missed post #26 while reading this thread. But to repeat, the answer is NO. SHSH is unique to each iDevice. You can't take the SHSH from one iPad and use it on another.

It really depends. Once in a while, people get lucky and get a new iDevice with a slighlty older firmware. But right now, I think it's highly likely your new iPads will come with 4.3.1.
