I down graded too to a maxed out 8 non Plus for pretty much the same reasons as you. I didn’t want to compromise. I actually used reachability a lot on my pre 8 non Plus but it’s a lot different on the X which I didn’t want to compromise.

Definitely. The iPhone 8 has benefited from a decade of ergonomic improvements, and it shows. I hope Apple does much better with one-handed use for its bigger phones in the next iOS upgrade, and maybe makes an 8-sized "XS" — because there are a lot of things to like about the X.

A lot of people dislike using it. And I mean dislike, like it’s somehow “wrong”.

Even worse with the X where you have to learn how to do the gesture right.

With that said, I used it often on my 6 and 6S and I use it almost daily on my X, when I’m holding it with one hand.

Actually, if the truth be told, thought I don't really like reachability on the X, I was =really bad= at tapping the home button just right with the 7 and earlier phones. Probably tells you more about the than the hardware or UI. ;)
