A senior editor at TIME Magazine wrote a cover story claiming that parents always have a favorite child, even though they won't admit it. The author claims that favored siblings, often the first-born son or last-borh daughter, can feel guilty for being pampered, while unfavored siblings may be jealous but are often better prepared for the adult world. Video: interview with the author.

Are you your parents' favorite? Does it matter?

I'm the spawn of mr 666 himself. Lmfao!

I must be, because my parents constantly invite me to visit, and sound so exasperated every time my brother calls and asks for more money :p

I think my parents love me,my brother and sister equally so no, and i don't think it matters that much unless they clearly hate you....

I think my parents definitely favor me a little more, although they didn't always and I suspect it only began after I was already an adult. My sister is older than me, so I guess that puts us in the minority.

We were both well prepared for adulthood (and are well-functioning adults with the usual number of minor neuroses :p).

I'd say it doesn't matter that much, except that I think over the long term I'll probably have a better relationship with my parents, but only marginally.

Are you your parents' favorite? Does it matter?
Let me answer that question by stating this:
When my sister and I finished high school and were getting ready for the next level, I was told that there was not enough money to send me to school, but my mother paid for my sister's college expenses. I had to work during the day, go to school at night and pay for it myself.

I'd like to say that we're all equal in terms of favoritism, but if I had to choose, my parents probably favor me the most (my siblings might say that for themselves too).

I'm a twin, and I think my parents each have a favourite, so technically yes and no.

I'm my Dad's favorite and my Mom's least favorite out of 5 sons.

So how much did my Mom NOT like me? I once brought a brand new digital camera ($1000 at the time) with my own hard earned money. Mom told me to hand it over to my brother, her favorite, and buy a new camera. They guy earned 5x what I made at the time. Give me a break, Mah.

Not in the slightest. My parents might say that they love us both equally, but yeah..:p. Not really.

I'm the younger of two brothers.

But yeah, when he was in prime-spending age (High-school/college), we weren't well off at ALL. So, he always felt guilty, and always wants to give me stuff even if it's unnecessary, and a TOTAL waste of money.
