I say we go full on minimalist and just go to a black screen with a green command prompt. Call it iTerminal :)
iOS 7 is heading that way, except it would be a white screen with a blue command prompt (given iOS 7's predominant use of white and blue for "button" names and icons).

Why is a wooden bookshelf needed to know how to use an ebooks app? I use the Nook app on the ipad and have no problems navigating it. Some people might like it design wise but I don't see where the wooden bookshelf adds value.

Sorry, but iBooks was pretty much one of the most beautiful reading apps and now it's just like all the others; plain and boring. :\

It's the only reason I would consider using an e-reader not I'm perfectly fine with sticking with actual books.

Does anyone think that Garageband will be changed to complimet the new iOS? I am not fan of skeuomorphic designs but on apps like Garageband it kind of make sense IMO.

Surprised nobody had mentioned to textured paper background of the notes app. So yes it's still there is ios 7.

May i add that the weather app in the iphone sucks? Its almost never accurate. I wouldnt plan a picnic based on it.

If there is a small chance of rain in the morning towmorrow, it will show a rainy sun as if thats gonna be the weather that day.

The app i use shows morning and afternoon forcasts for all days and is very reliable.

Not that I care but I'm just wondering...would the weather animations in iOS 7's new Weather app be considered skeuomorphic design?

A skeuomorph originally meant that an object unnecessarily included design elements from a previous incarnation:

  • Fake wood siding on a modern station wagon.
  • Typewriter sounds from an electronic keyboard.
  • Camera shutter sound from a digital camera.
  • Individual brick markings in a big concrete block.
  • Phone with touch tone buttons in a rotary circle.

Note that it requires a previous object, and it is always a copy of some part of the original object's basic functionality or necessary design that is no longer needed.

Recently bloggers got hold of the word, and started using it to include anything that looks like something in real life, but that's not always skeuomorphism.

For example, a folder on your screen is not a skeuomorph. It's a UI metaphor, something that draws on previous user real life experience. Other examples of metaphors would include desktops or bookshelves... because they still have a visual function.

Anyway, so no, showing weather animations relates neither to a previous object's functionality nor to a real life metaphor... unless, as someone noted, it was through a window pane or something... or perhaps was presented as a weatherman's TV map.

Cheers!
