Article: Can’t Get An iPad 2? Blame It On Asians

If you want it sooner, do your diligence and camp night before and choose what you want. Otherwise, order it online and wait for 3 to 6 weeks. Third option, make a trip to Canada or Mexico and get in line there.

Have you ever heard of eBay, amazon, etc? I have seen popular items: ps3, xbox360, streetfighter 4 controllers, etc. where americans resell them for a markup by 2 to 3 times more. Or, throughout the year, scalpers selling baseball games, football, etc. None of these are new!!:)

Giz and other bloggers are just "hoopla" this a bit much!! Them being asians or whomever mean nothing!! Apple once did not take cash! :rolleyes: There always ways around. BOTTOM LINE: get your ass in the line and the night before and early. It appears that Apple is catching up with online orders: they are shipping orders 10 days ahead.

The point is, if you are a consumer and you show up every day and are always 100th in line, regardless of the time you show up, and the first 100 are illegal, Asian mules... Then I think it's fair to say blame the asians...

Regardless of apples policies or actions, there is a character deficiency and questionable moral compass involved in becoming a mule to manipulate the free market. These are not people who command a great deal of respect, I do not applaud their opportunistic enthusiasm or their ability to endure lengthy, mundane line-sitting...

This is the same thing that happens for ticketed events. Scalpers everywhere and in everything..

I don't care if they're Asian, martians, or cat people. It's annoying and there should be measures to prevent it and discourage it.

Great point! Totally forgot about the scalpers outside baseball games and football games. Scalpers are almost an institution in this country when it comes to live events. What's not American about going to a yankee WS game without tix and scoring two seats off the 1st base line for $1500 a pair?

What about Stubhub, razor gator, these are all big COMPANIES doing EXACTLY the same thing! Everybody should be up in arms about them too, right? Now, if you weren't allowed to do what the resellers are doing, perversely, that would be worth getting upset about.

What this is really about is a bunch of babies crying that they can't get their ipad on the first day and don't have the patience to wait a few weeks. I ordered mine the day it was released and it will be here next week, or the week after, or the week after that...whatever, it'll get here and between now and then, my life....get this, goes on! Novel, huh?
 
For those that aren't in the know. www.slickdeals.net has a whole forum devoted to resellers and advice on how and where to get the next big thing. Just based on the use of the English language in that forum, I'm making an educated guess that most are Americans. No use of race in there either. Everyone is out for the same thing...resell to make a profit; it's the American way.

As one who thrives on the hunt for the next big thing here are some observations over my many years of shopping....;)
Some hot items in no particular order:

Cabbage Patch Dolls: Most of the people waiting in line at my local Toys R Us were Caucasians. Many were parents who camped out the night before waiting to buy those dolls. They wanted it badly enough to spend the time to get there before everyone else.

Tickle Me Elmo: I saw parents of all races camped out days and nights before this came out. The scalpers and resellers were out in full force. Many of them that I saw were Caucasians and Asian Americans.

Nintendo Wii: A lot of college age kids camped out days before the launch at Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears, Target, etc... All races. Resellers came in all flavors as well.

PS3: Same deal as the Wii. lines and camping equipment were in abundance along with people of all races.

For there past few years, there has been reports of some enterprising individuals who hire homelsss people to stand in line for them. That's been confirmed by local news media as well. They come in all races as well.

The fact is, whenever there is a hot item that's good for a quick profit, the reselllers are out in full force. Maybe a lot of them might even be Asians this time around. But the truth is that they come in all colors of the rainbow. As many have mentioned before, it all comes down to how badly do you want it? I don't remember seeing all these types of anti-Asian biased newspaper articles during the Tickle Me Elmo hype. Nor the Wii or Cabbage Patch Kids. I never saw any type of articles in the media that said "Can't Get a Tickle Me Elmo? Blame it on white trash and yuppie parents." (Yes, that was racist, but the point needed to be made and I apologize for dragging those who identify themselves as such into this crazy debate.)

What about Black Friday? Are there articles out there that say "Can't Get A 55 inch LED TV for $500? Blame It On Caucasians. "Can't Get A $200 laptop? Blame it On Poor Americans who camped out a week before."

Instead, I saw articles of organized people who hired the homeless to stand in line for them. They came in all colors but many homeless where African-American in some major cities. Did we see an article blaming the lack of Nintendo Wii's on poor homeless African Americans hoping to earn an easy buck? Of course not. Because that would be racist. But somehow its not racist to blame Asians for the whole reason why no one can get any iPad 2's?

How's this for racist? I'm glad that my fellow Asian American brothers and sisters are finally embracing the American way and have finally figured out how to beat the rest of the American population in grabbing the next hot thing to make a quick buck! Elmo resellers eat your hearts out....you've got NOTHING on the iPad 2 resellers. There happy? :D Long live the :apple:! ;)

LOL. That won't work. I bet you that somewhere, somehow, there will be someone who hired a bunch of homeless in Hong Kong to line up and grab all the iPad 3's to sell to some of us in the United States who are willing to pay double. Scalpers are universal. Then you'll get Chinese articles blaming the lack of iPad 3's in China because of the scalpers sending them all to the rich Capitalists dogs in America.

One wonders...

If these line holders are forking over iPads for cash, should they not be considered employees or some such? Should their "profit" be considered income? What about the obscene profit the reseller gets?

Someone should get the license plate of the X5 (or whoever is handing out cash) next time and forward what you saw to the IRS. They love to catch tax dodgers, because I really doubt the reseller is reporting all this income. IRS may even have a reward set up for turning in tax cheats.

LOLOLOLOL! Cabbage patch kids! HA! I'm old enough to remember when that train rode through town the first time in the 80's. It was nuts, maybe worse than what's going on now with ipads. That busted me up!

Thanks. Then you must remember the fist fights that mom and dad got into when they rushed into the store and had to fight off other mom and dads for the ONE PERFECT Cabbage Patch Doll for their daughter.

It was bloody I tell you....bloody. Broken noses, ripped hair, black eyes etc... And it happened nationwide.

I have never seen the box so I don't know for sure but, doesn't the iPad 2's box actually SAY "iPad 2"? The original post's pic has boxes that just say iPad...?

Also, is that blond chick going to go on a rant about Asians on their iPad 2 in the library?

Why can't the non asian folk stand in line earlier and get the ipads themselves? They complain about being too late, go earlier dammit!! Get off your lazy asses and go before them so you won't have to come back to this forum and moan about how some asians beat you to the ipad 2

It's was originally aimed at Chinese immigrants who could never become US citizens based on the Chinese Exclusion Act.

When it was repealed by the Magnuson Act in 1943, Chinese immigrants were no longer prohibited from becoming US citizens.

Therefore, although the law exists, it can no longer be used against Asians to prevent them from buying property.

Disclaimer: I agree that the law needs to be repealed, but legally as it stands now, it doesn't only prevent Asians from owning land. That's part of the reason why the repeal failed because many people didn't know the legal history behind the law.

No, you're wrong. Federal law prohibits denying the sale of real estate properties to anyone based in race.

Additionally, there are lots of laws still "on the books" but that doesn't mean they haven't been trumped by newer laws or federal laws. There are also a lot of "obsolete" laws still technically in the books... A law in Florida still exists that prohibits unmarried women from parachuting on Sunday without risk of arrest, fine, and/or jailing... Should we call the national organization of women parachuters and file a lawsuit?

I just remember it was nuts. We were a working class family and those dolls were not marketed well towards my demo........we'll just leave it at that.

Check out the commentary on this short blurb on it. "Riots" it says, over CPDs. So far, I haven't heard about these unruly, capitalist asians breaking legs and starting riots....
