because you can't at the moment (as you've just shown there). if i go through the site, i will have to wait at least 2 weeks, and my phone just broke 2 days ago. i'm relying on the local stores to get them in, since i live right by them anyway. the fact that Apple store staff even admitted to not getting stock is what bugs me. it just seems like they didn't plan this release correctly even with a not so high demand.

So this is really all about you not being able to get what you heart desires.

SHAME ON APPLE!

I live by 4 Apple stores, and I've visited them constantly these past two days. there have been no lines, even going early in the morning at the 24 hour NYC flagship store before their usual shipments come in, yet they never have the 64gb versions.
I'm happy with the rollout, I can't see how no lines and no product, is creating artificial demand.

it's a shoddy release especially for such a big company
How so, please expound. Am I reading into your post in that you're considering shoddy because the SE had no lines and didn't have the model you wanted?

My thought on SE: it targets old iphone 5ish users and android user who now might get it because of price.
Really i don't see why there should be a line on people. A lot of peole may upgrade via their carrier.
As far as artificial demand, idk anything is possible i guess. I dont see what apple can get out of doing that.

Publicity. Wall Street boost. At least that's what they've always been accused of when this charge was levied in the past.

Not sure anyone is paying that much attanetion to the SE though.

Simply anecdotally speaking but here in Idaho at the Boise Apple Store the most active table by far was the iPhone SE table yesterday Friday evening and the mall was busy.

As usual the huge abyss/ghost town was still present… Otherwise known as the Apple Watch table :)

Each year Apple continues to release a pathetic 16GB configuration (with cameras capable of filling them even faster) will push more and more customers towards the higher capacity model, especially with the price of the SE being so low as it is. More customers can afford the higher storage model and Apple probably underestimated the demand for 64GB, which I continues to boggle my mind in 2016. The 16GB base models have long outstayed their welcome and Apple is oblivious to this.

In all fairness to Radiohead14, this thread topic is not the first to conjecture or imply that regional shortages were intentional on Apple's part to stir up an impression of strong demand. I would take this thread as mere conjecture and discussion and not an attack on Apple.

We tend to assume--or perhaps just hope--that a multi-billion dollar company with a logistics whiz at the helm would be omniscient and prescient when it comes to delivering the right amount of product. It's always a slap of reality upside one's head to realize there is no exact science to this sort of thing, despite what business schools would have you believe, and that even Apple can get it wrong. Some of us would rather entertain even fleetingly, the notion it was intentional and not that Apple merely gave it all their best guess, after all.

In all fairness, perhaps this is the last 16gb model. Considering it is a prexisting model configuration, made up of prexisting parts, and targeted at the budget buyer, it really doesn't make sense to introduce a new paradigm before the launch of the 7, potentially revealing Apples plans to drop the 16gb tier, and potentially a new pricing structure.

I know if I owned Apple it would be my goal to have everything at the store or available on the Internet to buy when EVER a buyer wants it. Just reading these forums, from what I can see, Apple did a pretty good job and except for some regional shortages, it sounds like it went pretty well.

I just do not see Apple holding device back from Australia just to drum up more demando_O

Plus, people who grab affordable phone are less likely to need that much space.

But same time, apple releases 64gb and etc. it probably was cost issue.

Also keep in mind that Apple is delivering the SE worldwide. A large number of devices are going to have to be allocated to markets outside the US.

I thought that was the case when I bought my 5S, as 16GB was already a bit ridiculous a couple of years ago, and here we are!

I'm not upgrading again until there is a minimum 32GB base model for the standard base model pricing. Thankfully the 5S is still an excellent phone with plenty of legs left in it.

Yeah - Honestly....anyone buying an SE

Do not buy a 16gb

Even my 70 year old aunt burned through a 16gb phone simply due to photo/video capture of grandkids...

(and that wasn't a phone that could capture 4k like the SE can... 16gb offerings are such a shameless money grab from Apple - It's embarrassing honestly...)

I can't say that offering a 16gb version is nice but it is enough for plenty of people. It all depends on your use.

My launch-day iphone 5 16gb still has 6.2gb free and I've never removed any pictures made with it and it has all the apps I need.

If Apple was selling a 32gb version I might have considered it but as 16gb is more than enough for me and 64gb is way too much, I'll get the 16gb iphone SE.

Your iPhone 5 is not taking picture files anywhere near as large as the SE will with its 12MP camera, so an SE will fill much quicker than the 5 will even if you're just taking pictures.

You obviously don't keep any music on your phone either if you have that much free space on a 16GB capacity. Anybody who keeps even a reasonable amount of music and uses their camera will fill a 16GB SE faster than they think.

yep....same story with the much higher quality video.

16gb just isn't a good call on a brand new device in 2016.

Why not? I bought 3 SE's, 2 16GB and 1 64GB. One of the 16GB was for my dad, he has 2 apps installed and rarely takes a photo, why would i waste a 64GB on him?

Pretty much...and don't forget, with the SE's low starter price, getting the 64gb model was much easier on the pocketbook.

I think Apple thought many would buy the base, and they didn't.

Ok - That's a good use case of the 16, no question....But I'd imagine that's the exception and not the rule, don't you think?

(the exception being someone with a smartphone essentially never using the smartphone features of apps & camera...and many other features of course)

My brother in law and I were both saying the 16GB would be fine for us. That's all our current phones have. Maybe a few hundred photos, no real videos, two or three dozen apps, no large games, no music. There are more of us out there than you might think.

Moreover, I predict the SE becomes the new model of choice for corporate phones, and you know they'll be 16GB. I think Apple has this figured out.

So I just checked online and some stores in the area show online stock available, both GB configurations, sim-free option. I know the carrier stores have them and TMo will sell it for full price (dont know about the others). So not sure what the issue is. If you want a new product, preorder. Or wait for it if you dont want to preorder.

I am not being critical but this isn't a "big deal" exactly.

Yeah I think it sounds like the launch went over pretty well. Im just gratified that the demand for a smaller iPhone seems to have been fairly strong considering it is not a new design and is not a flagship product. I'm going to get one for my daughter but will wait until the supply is steady and stuff like wonky yellow screens and other flaws are reported on and worked out of the supply...assuming they will be. If not, well it's not the worst lottery to play, given Apple's decent return policy.

not surprised by your reaction. every time someone (even apple users) makes a not so positive comment here about the company, people like you jump to defense mode.

not sure if you fully read my post then.. get this.. NYC = big market. Apple staff in different stores admit that they haven't been getting shipments in or they barely get more than a handful. hell i just managed to get one today after days of revisiting all 4 stores, and the store staff admitted they only received 4 total of the 64gb since launch. now why would Apple send so little to such a big market? so like i agreed w Grumpymom before that it's possible they really just made a rookie mistake or are just out of touch with their customers now that they might've thought that 16gb will still be the big seller, so they didn't initially make enough 64gb's.. which i'd like to give Apple the benefit of the doubt that they weren't that clueless.. so the other reason i was thinking is that they think that having a shortage in a big market would stir up some hype. i mentioned there were no lines to make a point that the shortage is not because of overwhelming demand, and that by now and many years of experience, Apple should be well equipped to have a smooth launch with sufficient stock for moderate demand.

I've read that Apple has been suspected of creating artificial demand before, but I'm starting to think it's true. I live by 4 Apple stores, and I've visited them constantly these past two days. there have been no lines, even going early in the morning at the 24 hour NYC flagship store before their usual shipments come in, yet they never have the 64gb versions. each store has just told me I "missed the early shipments and sales", yet I've actually had a few staff admit they never even got stock, and that only the 16gb has been coming in. It's a silly business decision if this is indeed what's going on, since if this keeps up these next few days, then I'll just grab the Sony Z5 Compact. There are prob others out there like me who aren't tied to just one brand and OS, so Apple is just gonna lose business from us if they keep pulling this silliness.

ok. thanks for reporting here. Though it'll probably help more if you send a note to someone who can make a difference. ie: send a written letter to Mr. Tim Cook. Apparently, Apple does read all written letters and forwards important ones up in the chain.
