I didn't want to watch it when it came out, and it don't want to watch it now. Do yourself a favor and instead of watching this, watch the 2007 iPhone announcement. Or any other Steve Jobs keynote, for that matter. They're so good.

I just want to point out that to me the pinacle of Steve Jobs is the speech he gave at Macworld Boston in 1997. Business-wise and leadership-wise, I find this speech to be outstanding and I like to watch it regularly (although I never knew the guy, this feels like the real Steve Jobs to me).

The part with Bill Gates being jeered is quite priceless also ;¬)

Because:
" In theaters the movie, which had a budget of $12 million, has earned $16.1 million in the U.S. and $19.8 million abroad, for a worldwide total of $35.9 million. "

That's ~$24 million dollars of profit.(although distribution and ads probably cut that a bit). Still not bad.

You can make money, AND make a good film. Imagine how much it would have earned if it was great.

One thing to note, making movies isn't easy. It isn't easy if its a bad movie, or a good one. Its the same amount of labor either way.. so why wouldn't you make it good?

Yeahhhh I was so ready to like this. Even lowered my expectations and said "I like Ashton kutcher and even if he just does an ok job, I'll have gotten my money's worth".

Just rented it and wow. It was almost like a spoof making fun of all the characters at apple. Like one big snl sketch where they're literally trying to do a crappy job. Glad I rented and didn't buy. Just wow. They could've pulled out the stops and did a really awesome movie. But this? I'm sad I watched this

I think the movie was fairly good, it was less about the goings ons of Apple and more about Jobs and how he reacted to the things around him.

I guess we all can't help but to compare it to Pirates, but I think after the first 20-30 minutes, the idea this was Ashton Kutcher kind of passed on, and didn't bother me as much as it did before.

What really bugged me, is it basically told the Pirates story to the T. It even ended about where Pirates ended. Steve went back to Apple, only Jobs told a little more about the rebuilding, such as the Bondi, and a peek at the iPod, and a couple of nods towards the iPod such as Steves dislike of the walkman.

Also why did they show Jobs as a old man during the iPod announcement? He doesn't look as old as they show.

I have no idea what everyone's problem with the movie is... no it was not a typical movie with a typical arc, it was a biography that showed important events in his life and it gave you a feel for what kind of person he was through those situations. If you went in and expected a shallow, over-exaggerated and over-hyped story like SocialNetwork with a ridiculous "hero" who actually was more lucky than anything, then sure you were disappointed. This movie was more like his biography, for me it seems like it's written so his kids could one day see who he was and the movie picked that up.

I like the fact they did NOT paint him in a very favorable light but showed him with all his flaws and egoism. Like Woz said, he was the kind of person that helps the world take a step forward, that does not mean he has to be a person you like, he gets the job done and he took his own path when many others did not. The movie did a good job of showing him like that, driven and restless, vindictive and even petty yet successful in a lot of his ideas. That's why I liked it.

Pirates of Silicon Valley was also good but different, Jobs gets away much better there and it mainly ***** all over Gates and Balmer. You got to watch both to get a good picture but both are good, for different reasons.

Doesn't look like it'll ever get a UK theatre release but I've got a US iTunes account so will give it a look.

Watched it last night at 1am while still in my Thanksgiving food coma. It's a good movie IF you enjoy it for what it is...A MOVIE. Ashton, who I am not a particular fan of, did a great job (no pun intended). I watched it like I would any other movie. I didn't let my knowledge/obsession for Apple, or SJ ruin it for me. 3 stars.

How long until this is on Netflix? I don't really feel like spending any money on it.

I am pretty easy going

I just watched it and I actually liked Ashton

The movie left me wanting more- I guess it's damn hard to fit 30 years into 2 hours....

I also thought Steve was a real d$$$ for screwing some of the original employees...didn't know that. What a jerk

This isn't a bad film. It isn't great, but it's far from bad. You want a bad movie? Try Pacific Rim, which got mostly rave reviews. Take away the SFX and you have some of the most stale dialog ever filmed, a silly plot line, and super stiff performances by nearly everyone involved.

The people panning Jobs are the same ones who yell *YAWN* or *DISAPPOINTING!* at the end of every Apple keynote; who call every device launch underwhelming. Nothing is good for what it is....everything is bad for what it isn't. Those people are chomping at the bit to attack and criticize ANYTHING they can.

I found Kutcher quite believable at SJ, and was rather surprised at the depth he brought to the role.

Of course some of the material was over simplified and Hollywoodized. To tell the full story of Steve Jobs would take a miniseries. Maybe even 2 seasons worth.

Is Jobs Academy Award material? No. Is it reasonably entertaining and worth checking out to see Ashton Kutcher do a respectable, and at times excellent, job of personifying a virtually unknowable person? Yes.

Ok, Ashton's version of Steve's walk was a little dumb and totally unnecessary

Maybe Sorkin's version of the story will be better. It will certainly be more full of ridiculously over the top slick razor sharp quips and banter that actual humans can not sustain for more than a minute or two, much less 2 hours.

This is not even out in the UK cinemas, yet they complain that it did not take enough money.... Anyway, I watched it through my US iTunes account.

The film is not as bad as people make out. The average person is going to have some insight into Apple and Steve Jobs, that they never had before.

A lot of us on this site, will know the story a little differently, or the bit's left out. I do think Pirates of Silicon Valley is worth watching as well if you are interested, but cannot replace the Job's film and this one is at least more current.

I cannot help think that many people got so hung-up, over AK in the main role, that they could not get passed that. However, I think he did a good job and not only looked like him, but had all the quirky mannerisms you forget he had when he was around.

Worth a download and a view, IMHO.
