I'm curious what happens if you install it on a A Series chip iPad. Does it just error when you try to launch it, or does it just play at lower settings? At one point Apple had a policy against apps not supporting older models which still had current iOS support.
I don’t think it lets you. There should be some message in the store that tells you it’s not compatible.

They gave up on Mac gaming unfortunately, didn’t they. iPhone and iPads only!?
Apple has decided to sit on the fence so this is all we get:

Obviously, your average gamer already owns all of these "new" titles that eventually get ported to Macs/iPhone/iPad and thus aren't going to buy them a second or third time at full price just to replay them on an Apple device.

And Apple won't throw enough millions games devs to get have some of the hottest AAA titles launch on Mac the same day as all the popular gaming platforms get them, while they are still trending and relevant.

Great for showing off the power of the latest and greatest Apple computer or mobile device.

But I don't think it's ever been much deeper than that, Apple wanting some visuals to prove how great graphics performance for a given device and generate a little talk among gamers.

I still think that people willing to pay $50 for a game are also people who most likely already have a preferred gaming system, but time will tell.

I love video games and have two consoles and a Steam Deck and I can't see myself spending this kind of money on a game that only runs on my phone.

Now some will say mobile gaming is already huge and some people just don't have consoles, all of which is true, but I don't see mobile gamers spending $50 on a game.

I'd buy a $400 Apple TV M4 that can run games - but I doubt many would.

The same money buys a PS5 or a Series X|S with a decades worth of games rather than the select few that so far have been released. Honest question, why get the Apple TV?

It's $25 for the first two weeks.

I have a gaming PC and would like a high-quality game I can play when not in front of it.

Fair enough, although depending on what you mean by not in front of it something like the Steam Deck costs the equivalent of 7-8 of these games and you just play your existing library.

The phone is of course more portable and generally available, but it really depends on where you want to play.

Ah sucks you have to create a Ubisoft account, and when I tried to link my Apple account and hide my email it didn’t like it.

This sucks even more :)

Games are meant to be played on PC / console.. not on tablets / mobile phones.

And yet the biggest games market by far globally is mobile gaming, hence why Microsoft just spent 70 billion US for Activision Blizzard, because they also got King Mobile which is what they really wanted.

I encourage everyone to download the game, and to get as many people to download the game as possible. It's free to download with the 90 minute trial. Downloading, even without a later purchase, is a huge boost to AAA gaming prospects going forward.

It's extremely important that these first few AAA titles do well across iOS. Apple can only do so much. Devices can be powerful enough, but if consumer demand isn't there, then there will simply be no incentive for developers.

Even if you have no intention of playing this game, but want to see AAA games on iOS in the future, DOWNLOAD. THE. GAME.

Must be a crap ton of people trying to download it - keep getting a "This item is no longer available" message when I click the Get button.

Looks great but why isnt the game filling up the screen? The black bars are killing me.

So create a protocol for zero-latency game streaming from iPhone/iPad to Apple TV.
The protocol already exist! A USB-C cable.
Pro iPads going back many generations have video out as well as the 15's. Apple TV/Airplay is unnecessary just plug it it in/connect a controller to the device via bluetooth.

Finally got the download to work and it plays great on my M1 12.9".

One thing I noticed is that the app bundle shows 11.09 GB. Is this the first app/game in the iOS App Store that breaks the 4GB bundle size limit?

Yeah that’s a terrible experience on the M4 iPad Pro lmao. Graphic settings on High are huge no-go, straight down to well below cinamatic fps. But even on Medium, every time you spot a new asset the game freezes for a second, sometimes more, so free running is a nightmare.

Oh, and it’s already hard crashed twice in ten minutes.

It’s a Ubisoft production alright.

Personally, I think the iPad has huge potential for gaming. its my favourite device and I would definitely buy games on it at full price. I have Civ 6, DOS2, and will try this game out too.

I’d love the cities skylines games and Baldur’s gate 3 to come to iPad

iphone I agree, too small for me to play these kind of games on.

Just tried it, it defaults my M1 iPad Pro to medium graphics, set them to high! Seems alright but I think the screen dimmed after 10 seconds already 🤣😂

So… buggy, crashing, load issues, download issues, M4 performs < M1 …

What a half-hearted effort by Apple o_O

Unfortunately, we are still years out from AAA gaming on iOS.

I’ll still download it though :D
