It's only a cross if it actually has a good performance.
Seems like a 12 incher you keep plugged in all, most of the time to me; a kind of throwback to old timey laptops.
That's kind of the problem with this silly race to the thinnest notebook, batteries keep getting smaller or manufacturers switch to more frugal/weaker processors like the Core M to save on power.

Neither is a good compromise to me, I want a capable processor and 9-10 hours of autonomy - the thickness of the thing is secondary (within reason).

I wouldn't buy it because of the screen alone. Also, the only vendor I would buy it from would be Microsoft (as a Signature Edition). Remember that Windows OEMs often throw lots of junkware/spyware on their computers. If you buy a Windows PC, get it from the Microsoft Store to make sure it is clean.
Download Windows 10 ISO from MS, make bootable usb drive, wipe the current Windows and install Windows from the bootable usb drive that you made. No more manufacturer bloat.

Looks awesome and great selection for those operating in windows!!

If I were still on the windows team I'd give it serious consideration! But since I changed over to OS X I can't imagine going back to using a dock to enlarge a screen, using a mouse to right click and perhaps having the inability to combining PDFs to name a few.

looks like a nice consumer laptop, my only objection is that I would prefer a laptop the size of a macbook air with killer battery life. 9 hours is fine but to me the longer the better. I have a 2013 macbook air which has great battery life and even that I wish was longer (although my battery capacity is down 10% since I got it new and every OS update seems to make the battery life worse)

So super thin and light with one port is cool now? How's the keyboard and trackpad? How about real world battery life? How hot does it get? How often do the fans kick in?

You shouldn't have mentioned that it is thinner! Now Ivy will spend all of R&D resources on making the next MacBook the thinnest yet even if it means making sacrifices in other areas such as performance, battery life, camera, ergonomics, etc! :p
The MacBook has most of those 'sacrifices' already!

Yeah? Well, at WWDC Tim Cook will unveil a full line of nylon covers for the MacBook that shows the world how innovative Apple is.

Honestly, until we see benchmarks we can't actually ascertain whether this thing is really that much faster. I own the 1.3GHZ Macbook (2015) and it's great, but if you make something that thin and fanless the CPU is going to throttle hardcore. Also it seems that a lot of the Macbook's snappy performance (and honestly it's snappy) comes from software optimization. For instance it's a different experience using Apple's creative apps and Adobe's. Night and day. So we shall see! Once again, just tossing out specs means nothing in these kinds of computers that have to worry about thermals.

What a piece of junk. No wonder people think that company is a joke run my idiots. They deserve havong to deal with Wincrap 10.

Engadget hands on not too impressed with the keyboard. Will be curious to see what reviews have to say.

Honestly I prefer when companies don't specifically call out Apple. Even Panos Panay at Microsoft said he basically wakes up with Apple on the brain. Don't these companies know you can do cool stuff without having to tell the world you're trying to out-Apple Apple.

Also what's with the blatant Surface rip-off? Do they think making it gold means people won't notice?

No, that would be a computer product. Apple dropped the word "computers" from their name a few years back. They make phones now.

But seriously Apple does need to make more then some incremental change the their Mac line. They can't do it with hardware because if Foxconn can build it for Apple then Foxconn can build the same thing for Azus. Apple has no ability to lead in hardware because they don't build hardware. The changes need to be in Max OS X, the suite of apps that come with it and in Aplle's Pro Apps. Some ideas:
1) update the file system: Users should not see "drives" just one big "storage". Copy on write would be god if there is storage space available. Transparent multi-level storage where data moves between flash, disk and cloud
2) better time machine that uses could as a secondary redundant backup
3) a much improved spotlight that knows the meaning of words and can deal with misspellings and synonyms kind of like siri and can ask for clarification and is more interactive
4) files and folders work ok but why not keep data like you do photos and file them based on meta data. Why can't I ask for that Pages document I last worked on about 4 months ago that was about "optics". I should not have to remember a folder structure. Then as I reference it the data get pulled down to faster storage from cloud to disk to flash and RAM cache. Cacheing is OK but I think we could do a proactive move in the background.

If Apple had a bigger suit of pro apps that really were better than anything out there like they used to have then people would have more reason to buy Macs. Back when all Apple made was computers Apple HAD to do this because the company existancedepenedd on selling computers. Now they don't need to care because they have moved on to phones.

I don't get it why notebooks like these is able to put Intel Core i7 in it while the MacBook gets a crippled Intel Core M?

I remember the original MBA launch where SJ showed why netbooks is horrible and one of the points was Intel Atom (or along low powered processor or something) Guess what Apple, Core M is the new Atom, and you're using it in your MacBooks!
Because the MacBook is fan-less. While all these Windows ultrabooks have fans. Because Apple insists on this design quirk the MacBook is an underpowered overpriced toy basically, with an archaic video camera and a ****** keyboard!

who gives a hoot how "Thin" stuff is

Apple does.

I would. I guess millions (minus MacRumors members) would, as long as it does not compromise the functionality I want out off it. The slimmer and lighter it is, the easier to carry around in my bags. If i want it to use it on my home desk, I would get a desktop.

I would agree with this for sure if I ever considered a Windows machine. Bloatware is so atrocious.

As far as people buying a Macbook because of the OS - that isn't always true. I know several people who bought a MacBook, but use Windows on it most of the time because the Macbook is just better hardware wise but their software is more native to Windows (for instance, lots of devs who use Visual Studio for development).

I'd rather die a horrible death than ever see a Start Menu on my Mac.

That's a damn fine looking machine. Weak points vs MacBook look to be battery life and screen resolution. Surprised they didn't put in a second USB port to avoid all the drama Apple is facing over their decision to go with just one.
The MacBook is a design statement rather than a genuinely useful laptop. That's why its fan-less (only achievable using an anaemic CPU) has one USB-C port for minimal clutter and a technically interesting keyboard design but one that as a result of this, is not nice to use...its an engineers 'concept' laptop not a user friendly one.

it still has a fan, the macbook is fan-less (not saying the MB couldn't have a small quiet fan in exchange for a better processor, just that's why it's running the M..)

Fingerprint sensors included in our notebooks / desktop computer keyboards (in combination with a clever software communicating with our Internet browsers) to finally get rid of typing/saving passwords for every online account is SO overdue. It's by far the safest, easiest and fastest way, we wouldn't even need password managers like 1Password anymore. We have 2016, when will this finally happen?!

Fingerprints and NOT a replacement for a unique pass phrase. They are more like a secure username. Legally, the government can compel a person to relinquish their fingerprint, giving them wholesale access to a person's entire catalog of data. If the fingerprint data on the device is compromised... Any old hacker is now, for all intents and purposes, you.

It is easy and fast, but not safe. Do not rely on a fingerprint to secure your data. Security is still a challenge and the best solution we have is a unique pass phrase in conjunction with biometric ID.
