It's all very area dependent. Even tower dependent it seems. I can get throttled in one part of the city, but not in another part.

^^^THIS^^^

I suspect the area that the OP lives in has had an upgrade to the system and they have more than enough bandwidth available so they need not throttle.

AT&T still reserves the right to do so and for those who abuse it, they should lose it!:p

i usually average around 8 gigs a month. i dont see that as abuse.

It is done in areas with low bandwidth. But how many on the network can still have that old plan?

i got throttled this month. 1mb/sec download speeds FTL.

I get throttled at exactly 5GB consumed, my speeds go down to 0.15-0.65MB down after the 5GB which I find ridiculous.

What right is being reserved? Someone seems sour they don't have unlimited.
I bought unlimited and the cap throttle on my area is ridiculous. I use between 4-8GB a month w/out streaming any movies/tv shows. I don't mind the cap if I could at least get 1-2GB down.

If you all want truly unlimited data, all you have to do is go on eBay and find an AT&T LTE Android device, take down the IMEI if the seller posts it, call AT&T and have them put you on "Data Unlimited for smartphone on 4G LTE" make sure they include visual voicemail. Your iPhone will work fine on an Android data plan. Then once you use the 5GB, call again and give them your iPhone 5, 5C, or 5S IMEI. Repeat the process when you hit 5GB. Your bill will look like a mess, but you won't be charged more because its all prorated. I've done this up to 5 or 6 times a month. As long as you go from unlimited to unlimited you can switch as much as you want.

EDIT: iPhone 4S users can even give AT&T an iPhone 5, 5C, OR 5S IMEI number for 5GB of HSPA+ data.

The above looks like a mess and I highly doubt there is unlimited data for Android users...

That above method works perfectly. This is unlimited data for Android users. It's an old grandfathered in plan. I went from the unlimited iPhone 2G -> 3G -> unlimited 3G android -> unlimited android 4G LTE with Visual Voicemail over the years.

It's the only plan that allows me to use visual voicemail on my GS4, while letting it also work on my iPhone 5S

You can't get it anymore unless you have an old plan and are upgrading.

im going to switch if it gets worse. t-mobile here i come.

i understand throttling me if i go over 10gb, but 5gb. cmon.

LEARN TO READ! This method is NOT a mess! It might be a 10 minute process for the AT&T rep to change the data plan over, but its worth it for unlimited data! Why wouldn't Android users have unlimited data? Boy, I guess your credibility just went out the window. I'm done now.

Depends on number of towers and traffic where you are. It appears that ATT more likely to throttle in areas where cell traffic is heavier

This is an interesting method :)

It is a mess. Also there is no such thing as unlimited android data anymore. It just happens that you switch from unlimited to unlimited.

Make that clarification as several posters have PM'd me asking how to get unlimited through your method.

Isn't this basically stealing? You're using someone else imei number, and they potentially won't be able to activate their phone?

If someone is grandfathered into AT&T unlimited data for smartphones, then they it will be unlimited data (5GB) for iphone or Android. My method works regardless of phone your using. In order for my method to work you'd already have to have the $30 smartphone plan, which no one can get now. I have had it since the old loophole worked. I have switched a dozen times in a month from Android to iPhone. Still have unlimited. Basically the plan restarts when they switch the IMEI.

I know for a FACT that by putting someone else's IMEI number on your account will NOT affect them in any way, shape, or form. They will be able to activate their device fine. Its another story if the IMEI is blacklisted.

But those of you whining that this method is a mess, you go right ahead. Enjoy getting throttled at 5GB. I will enjoy all the data I want for $30 on AT&T. I didn't have to share my method, but I did because I'm a nice guy!

Those wanting unlimited data, I suggest you hit T-Mobile up.

I have a friend who just posted about being throttled on his ATT plan on facebook just the other day.

Glad I jumped ship to Verizon back in June for their unlimited plan while I still could get out of an ETF.
