I have been reading a lot about people calling and getting their activation fee waved. Does anybody have any tips for this? Should I go to the store in person or is there a special number I should call?

Swap your SIM card out of your old phone and shouldn’t have a problem. If you do, then try to call them and just say you spoke to someone last week and they said the fee would be waived. Always worked for me.
Oh and it was also always the last time that they were going to waive the fee 😂

I went to the store because I had a few numbers to swap around. Rep looked at how long I have been a customer and said “I’m not charging you!”

Got mine waived.

Don’t get this waived if you have bogo or $300 VISA card offer... you may lose it. This is required to get the offer... paying the fees.

Thanks for this thread. I just called ATT and got a $30 credit on my next bill.

I was very nice and polite. I told the man that I just ordered a new phone and I bought it from them and I have been a long time customer and the activation fee doesn't seem right.

He immediately said no problem, that he would take it off as a 1 time thing because I am a good customer.

He did not have time to lookup whether this was done before, so I am sure you can keep doing this, as someone elese mentioned they had it done twice as a 1 time thing lol.

Been with AT&T for a long time, the best method is to get a chat rep. I’ve had call reps say no then the chat rep gives it to me. Also if you use your old phones sim it will not charge the fee in their system.

This is my 10th new iPhone from AT&T, since I’ve upgraded every year since the 3GS, and I don’t believe I’ve ever paid the upgrade fee. I always call and ask for a credit to cover the fee, and they always say it’s a one time courtesy. It’s a fun game we play.....

It's a freaking crime that they even charge it. It's the Seinfeld of wireless calling plans - a fee about nothing.

I didn't upgrade this time, but I have never paid that fee - I always managed to get it waived or credited back.

Yea, the charge is unnecessary. Anyway I did a live online chat, and I will be getting a credit for the charge on my next month bill.

Tks to this thread for reminding me to do it.

I do it using their online chat every year, I usually get it partially or fully refunded. If the rep says no, I just keep trying. It’s really easy doing it by chat, you can just copy/paste your argument into the chat with the next agent 👍

Very easy process, I usually get it don’t when I call retentions to see if they can cheapen my plan or when I’m paying the last installment in advance to get my next iPhone.

Never been charged an Upgrade fee And never thought about removing the activation fee. Just chatted with rep and they took both activation fees out so saving $60 next month!!!!!

There is an upgrade fee and activation fee? I have never been charged for both. How much?

Upgrade fee was $30 but I’m not sure how much the activation fee was. My employer‘s EPP discount automatically covers the activation fee so I was never charged for that.

It seems crazy to even attempt to charge an upgrade fee.

i had a chat with a rep and got mine waived when i got my 11. Just told them ive never been charged an activation fee, which i havent

I work for AT&T corporate and if you call to waive the act or upgrade att will deny a bogo + $300 Visa card if you are doing it since it’s a requirement to pay for it.
