right and no one is using iphones on t-mobile right now without activating them with att...oh wait. are you guys serious?

You honestly AT&T/Apple wasn't going to change they way they did things? So you are genuinely surprised that they are cracking down on unlocking?

yes. they could have easily done this from the get go if that was something that bugged them. i am not saying it isnt their right, just that i think it sucks.

i understand the subsidy issue but i would gladly pay the difference. i do not have the option of using ATT so i am in effect banished from using an iphone.

With all these pricing schemes changing, I would hate to see what the revised estimates from the analysts are going to be. I would expect both Apple and AT&T stocks to drop tomorrow.

They must be praying that the corporate world picks up the slack, because they are killing the consumer market off. The folks over at RIM must be doing back flips...

Why, Blackberry data plans are already $30 a month, last I checked and the unlimited plan for my HTC 8525 was $30 a month so it seams to make sense that ATT would want to make all there smart phone data plans the same.

Oh, the horror of two companies creating, selling, marketing and licensing a product the way they want to.

The horror. The horror.

There are countries that don't allow that. They're called socialist countries, often-times even - dare I say - communist. I'm sure Apple and AT&T would have thrived there.

Makes perfect sense, this is exactly what I suggested they do months ago. I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner, I guess they assumed that either people wouldn't figure how to unlock, or the number doing it would be negligible.

Really, can you blame them for enforcing a policy they've had from the beginning, especially when it costs both companies money?

What BS cold-war-style propaganda talk.

Well said ... I was thinking that my iPhone would bring $100 max. (16gb) But now, unlockers will be hoarding these by the dozens.

HA. Just check ebay. I just saw a 8gb unlocked iphone with a cracked screen go for 253. I almost sold mine and the wifes today for 225. Glad i didnt!!

Ah, yes, consumer rights - put in place so global companies can't **** the consumers over - what's it good for. Only in socialist, and dare I say it: Communist countries.

you do realize there are perfectly modern, non-communist countries that do not allow carriers to lock their phones?

Absolutely I do, or was that a rhetorical question.

Go to them. Give them your money. That is your right, and in the world you choose to live in, your vote.

Worse and worse...

This new iphone 'deal' keeps getting worse and worse as the minutes tick by.

AT&T hasn't brought fiber to the box on the side of your house, hasn't brought internet access to major parts of this country, inspite of the government having given the industry millions over the years.

And AT&T seeks to squeeze the juice out of probably the hottest thing this side of pluto... Greed? Ruthlessness? Will it backfire?

Instead of trying to make money on volume, they want to make money on raw price and draconian chains and penalties... It just keeps getting worse and worse...

Apparently not. It's the same shyte every time someone points out that a given company shouldn't have the right to screw their company over: Some "patriot" indulges in calling the rest of the western world for "communists" …

I think it's rather sneaky of AT&T to charge $10 more than what they charged iPhone 1.0 users for unlimited data. As others have pointed out, over 2 years, you end up paying $40 more than the unsubsidized price.

What is that rate for giving you $200 now in exchange for $10 monthly, about 20%.

Sort of expected these days.

Again, go to them. Give them your money. That is your right, and in the world you choose to live in, your vote. Teach Apple and AT&T a lesson.

Or, perhaps we should pass a law against this nonsense AT&T and Apple are up to.

i am just saying the idea is not communist. surely you have brains enough to realize that voicing my displeasure with att on a forum is not indicative of my opinion of this country. i was merely replying to your absurd comments.

Indeed, we should pass laws to stop companies from putting a gun in someone's face and forcing them into these deals.

I really don't understand why so many people want to use this phone on T-Mobile in the US. The 3G one will be basically useless on their network as far as using the higher speeds? Also no visual voicemail, app store. Man just sign up for ATT and be owned already. lol

I'm a truck driver, I bought an iPhone because the features would really help me out with my job. I had no intentions of unlocking my iPhone until I had a load that took me across I-90 and I-94. Once I hit Montana I lost all reception and didn't get it back until I got to Wisconsin. The next day I unlocked my phone and I've been running it on T-Mobile since. I get far better coverage with T-mobile than I ever have with AT&T, and the customer service is much better to boot!

I'm kinda bummed at these new attempts to keep people like me from buying a new phone, but hey, that's their loss. As soon as I can buy one and walk out of the store without activating the phone, I will. until them I'm just gonna be glad that I bought a 1rst Gen iPhone.

rofl you are the king of exaggeration. no one is claiming to be forced into it. it is however now the only option to get a current iphone. we shouldnt come on and voice our displeasure? is it not logical to complain when you are unhappy with something? where do you get off.

pay as you go?

does anyone know if ATT is planning on making a pay as you go plan available for this like they did for the old iphone?

Well, I can't pass a law, can you? No? Thought so.

So, we're back to you balking like a true "patriot", that if people don't like something, they should just shut their mouths. What a democratic mindset.

Thank you for being the first person to articulate a very strong argument against this new deal, and for articulating the action you are going to take against it. It is refreshing to hear a real world example of both the problems it causes, and how you will vote with your dollars next time around. I mean that absolutely sincerely.

It's no good to argue with these trolls.

They have such a childish view of this country and those that rule it.

They deserve to be destitute and busted and forced to depend on the government that they seek to destroy.

Jail for 'thought crimes' is for others. Paying taxes is for others. Depending on 'social programs' is for no one.

The back hand of the government can just as easily strike them on the cheek than me but they feel that it's somehow deserved for others and impossible for them.

Childish and ridiculous. Pity their arrogance and their inept ignorance. Forgive them for they truly know not what they do...
