Love how they have an original iPhone shown in the top part of the press release.

it's great that it's coming out after summer and that the lady in the photo is using an iPhone that won't even support MMS. haha great job AT&T. at least we're getting it!

This worries me. I'm leary of updating my phone to 3.1 for fear of it disabling Tethering, which is essential to me. So do I suck it up and deal with no MMS? It kills me that it requires a software update. Why can every other carrier allow MMS on 3.0, and AT&T's band of foam hat wearing retards requires a software update? Likely a strongarm to disable those who turned on tethering.

Damnit I hate AT&T so much. I wish they'd lose the exclusivity already

Hi
Ugh. Not only do I not want MMS, I'm actually dreading this because I fear what it will do to AT&T's already pathetic 3G speeds (getting under 400 kbps in downtown Boston). I know they get a ton of crap for not having MMS, but network speed is about 100x more important.
Agreed. And coverage. And reliability.

Not to say that I'm not happy for MMS ( $5 / 200 messages plan is more than enough for me ) but there are other issues I want AT&T to invest in improving / fixing.

Why would you use the smiley emoticon when your post wasn't amusing?

"MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day." --Does this imply that the OS 3.1 Update will be available on Sept.25? Maybe. We will probably learn about this during Apple's Media Event. MMS is "Media."

"AT&T points to the need for the company to build out its network infrastructure to handle the demands of heavy MMS messaging volumes"
Enjoy your fast internet connection while it lasts. It will soon grind down to dial-up speed.
Apple should be introducing a word of caution to iPhone users: "it's up to you. don't send 50 billion MMS every day, or your network is going to be super slow. be responsible."

MY BROWSING SPEED IN SAFARI IS NOW GOING TO GRIND TO A SNAILS PACE BECAUSE OF ALL THE PEOPLE SENDING THOUSANDS OF MMS PHOTOS OF THEIR CATS ALL DAY LONG !!!!

That's no cat...

Yes but does your contract say that you will have MMS by late summer? I haven't read mine that carefully, but I seriously doubt it. What AT&T says in an ad or a keynote presentation does not become part of your contract.

If anything, this is false advertising, not a breach of contract. And even if you could prove a claim for false advertising, you're faced with the problem of proving damages. What do you think you can prove for losses based on receiving the ability to send MMS 3 days late? Because I'm thinking approximately $0.

Add to that you have to prove the fact that when AT&T first said that they knew that the deadline would of gotten pushed a few days. Both which can not be proven. It is very easy to for AT&T to find 3 days worth of delays.

Well considering you are already breaking your contract by using tethering on your iPhone..... If tethering is so essential for you PAY FOR IT.

Just sent and received a MMS

I am running the latest iPhone OS 3.1 beta. I have absolutely never jailbroken my iPhone but when I power cycled my iPhone I received an image that my Niece tried to send me a few days ago. So, I then successfully tried to send a photo to her via MMS.

3.1 is probably coming out next week. the 25th we'll probably see a new APN file pushed out. people who enabled MMS without jailbreaking simple edited the APN file on their phone

in other words " we have delayed this as long as possible to save some money"

AT&T, you are such a failure. Couldn't even push it 3-4 days sooner to avoid MORE negative PR?

And might you be a week late from there yet?
