This is a double tick me off!

So my network in the past year and a half has gone from 3 bars to practically nothing and AT$T decides to add more crap onto their network without fixing things first?!

And then Sling, decides my Slingbox AV doesn't qualify even though, way back when, they sold it with the promise it would.

I hate bith these companies. Oxygen thieves...

The AV works, even though it's "not supported."

Between the iPhones, the iPad and now the Sling, it'd be a REAL treat to be an AT&T customer in the next few months. ;)

Your best hope is an end to the AT&T iPhone monopoly... but I wouldn't put it past Apple to accept a few extra dollars to keep the "same old, same old" going.

Now how about turning on that iPhone tethering that was promised last summer?
Exactly! They don't deserve any positive press for this (Slingbox announcement) until they actually do it. And, is there any journalism going on anywhere - or we all just being fed press releases? I'd love for them to be asked: "great announcement about the Slingplayer... a lot of users are comparing this announcement to your tethering announcement... what do you have to say about that?"

Yes yes yes!!!!!!

I've been waiting for this ever since I got the first gen iPhone on day 1, I had a windows mobile phone and a slingbox solo at the time. I havn't been using the slingbox much on mylaptop, whenever I want to watch it I'm way out of range of any wifi, and I'm too cheap for a 3g card.

I am so happy, I remember the sling represenatives at macworld 2008 talking about this app I was soo excited.

Yahoo, sad to say be prepaired for another network slowdown, but this time it's worth it to me.

-1

First of all, 58% of Apple revenues come from outside the US.

Secondly, I am pretty sure there is a very sizeable portion of users here who are NEITHER US citizens NOR residents.

Finally, the fact that a domain is ".com" tells nothing about its origin or owners.

So in a nutshell, is this SlingPlayer news any relevant to other markets? Can we watch live TV with SlingPlayer in other countries? Thank you.

OK, well how about Apple HQ is based in the US and the products always come out in the US first...

Too late now. I get rid off Slingbox when Slingmedia decided to not support older hardware....that proved how bad they are.
I am happy customer with EYETV now.

Same here. Mine went into the garbage — literally.

I helped beta test their software, and the thanks they showed me was to eliminate support for the Slingbox on which I tested it!

Screw that...

This is about time and I can only think that it has to do with pending competition. 5 years on an exclusive contract with AT&T was just too long Apple and we have paid the price for it. This should have debuted with 3G access and not an afterthought of almost 1 year!

You do realize it's only been 2.5 years so far, right?

The same/similar thing just happened with the new WinMo touch-based Slingplayer app that looks the same as the iPhone player: The older AV box still works with it, but doesn't support favorites any more.

I think it's great that ATT's confidence level is rising enough to allow Sling over 3G. They seem to finally be making progress.

Does everyone realize that the iphone player works fine with the older Slingbox tuners (even tho its not officially supported)? I've been using my iphone with the slingbox tuner for over a year without any problems. How much longer analog cable will work is a different matter ...

Did you read the message right before yours?

For all you jailbroke folks running Sling over 3G, backup your original Sling app. If ATT is "optimizing" Sling's app, no telling what quality your going to get.

I imagine those jailbroken like me should still be able to fool it into wifi-quality (as good as the connection will allow) though...I hope so anyway.

Sling says AT&T is full of crap - sling didn't "work with" them, and they didn't change the app at all. They don't know why AT&T approved it.

Also, didn't AT&T tell the FCC they have nothing to do with approving apps?

its still not working for me

I've been trying since 5 hours after the announcement and its still not working for me a day later. I'm still getting turned away with the Wi-fi only message. Not very nice ATT.

Obviously it requires an app update. It takes awhile for app updates to be approved by apple.

Well considering most people's iPhone, ya know, have a phone already on them. Skypes kind of, not a big deal. IMO, this is. This act could change how lots of apps function, for the better.

Skype makes a huge difference when you're calling overseas frequently, and when you're overseas calling home.

even tho i think mobile tv watching is kinda unnecissary (too busy outside my house to sit n watch tv or movies on my iphone... at least for me, others prolly got good use for it), its really awesome att permits it over their service.

its still not nice, let's get er done

News Flash! It takes more than a couple of days for an application to get through the approval process.

Chill, dude. It often takes me 2 weeks to get even simple app updates approved. Calm down and take a breathe.

Just to give you some ideas, here are a few things that I use it for:

  • Driving with my young daughter in the back... she can watch her kid shows.
  • Passing time while alone in a doctor's waiting room.
  • While on vacation, we can watch home news stations even if we're a half a world away.

You could also hook a camera to the Slingbox so you can check on your house while away, although a dedicated webcam device works also.

that's all fine and good, but when will this app be released....i really want to give it a whirl to watch "lost" from the airport.....no free wifi, yes free 3g!!

cmon apple approve this bad boy!
