I do

You should be eligible for a partial subsidy. You should recheck. Most AT&T users who bought the 4S on or around launch last year qualify for a $200 discount on the 5, assuming bills paid on time etc.

My bad, I do qualify for a partial subsidy, as I can buy a phone for $449.

But I've previously qualified for the full one.

----------

You and I have the exact same ownership pattern. I even skipped the 3G also.

But AT&T allowed me to upgrade to the 5 at the full subsidy. I'm beginning to wonder if that's a fluke or something related to my bill.

Interesting.

I'm on a family plan with two iPhones. Unlimited text on both, grandfathered unlimited data on mine, 2 gigs for the other. 950 shared minutes.

No bill issues that I can remember.

I DID add my wife's iPhone 4 to my plan (bill increased from $100 ish to 150 ish) a while before the 4S came out. I qualified for an upgrade, but she did not.

Anyway, I'm not angry or upset, nor do I think AT&T owes me anything, I'm just sad that I don't get to upgrade right away like I have before.

And I'm not willing to pay more than the subsidized $200 price for a new iPhone.

Anyway, I'll stop by a store sometime and ask. Couldn't hurt.

The bars are a lie

Calls drop constantly. In midtown. In times square. On the BQE. Drop drop drop.

THe early upgrade sweetened the pot enough for AT&T for me to stay. Now that they made is cheaper to leave, why deal with the grief?

Your phone is broke. My wife's 4 did that because of slight water damage. Apple replaced it

Or you just have a cloud over you all the time

My understanding is that AT&T changed their policy on this. In the past, they allowed some people to upgrade every 12 months, apparently based on things like how much you were spending (generally for the main plan. Certain added features didn't count). We have a family plan with two lines, and have always been able to upgrade the primary line every 12 months, but the secondary line only every 20 months (I think - maybe 18 at times). After the 4S launch last year, the primary line switched to being able to upgrade every 20 months, so that gives a date in May.

Once they did that I dropped my plan to a cheaper one. I had always been sort of on the border of plans, but kept the more expensive one because it worked out to be a better deal with getting an upgrade every 12 months. Now it's not worth it.

Yeah my phone is broken. And my wife's. And my neighbor's. And 4 of my co-workers'. All broken. We have such slippery fingers, always dropping them.

Question

If you get the new iPhone at the 749.00 (32GB) price... it doesn't extend your contract... right? Since AT&T is unlocking iPhones that are not under contract, then they would unlock this phone for you?

Thanks.
