You mean when they sell a ton more like they always do?

I’m not so sure. I don’t know anyone apart my diehard Mac friends who are planning to buy the X. It’s just too expensive. I’m sure they will have a bumper next quarter but once all the Apple fans have got the X how many will they sell to the general public is anyone’s guess.

Rush was giving away several iPhone X to his listeners today and is a diehard supporter for Face ID.
[doublepost=1510109706][/doublepost]I'm still thinking about that "notch haircut" in the spoof. Too bad I don't have hair to do it. :p

People not buying the flagship Apple product would be something that hasn’t happened in almost 10 years.

Remember, $999 isn’t the price. It’s $33/month and less with a trade in. Welcome to America (and many other western acting countries around the world).

I think the $999 starting price is literally almost a non factor. The Note has been $900 for 3 years..I’ve owned them to know that.

Lots of people with disposable income too. Markets are roaring...people have money again. You think people blink at a $1000 phone that you can lease? Over 50% of cars are now leased and people making $35k drive Lexus, BMW and Mercedes. People buy whatever they want, PARTICULARLY phones. People in the projects have iPhones.

Your experience seems to be atypical; have you tried repeating the setup process? It’s also possible you have bad hardware and should exchange it.
Actually there is some threads in the iPhone forum detailing others with their issues, so no I don't believe my issue is atypical. I also don't think its a hardware issue as it does unlock using face id. Sometimes it does it on the first try sometimes it doesn't. I've turned off Required Attention for Face ID and Attention aware features and that has helped a great deal.

Finally, yes, I've reset Face ID and tried re-registering my face.

I don’t where you can get an iPhone X for the equivalent of £20/mth. I just checked on the EE network and the price is £83 ($109) per month.

Gotcha. Yeah I wasn’t saying you (and others) weren’t experiencing issues; 5 or even 10% having problems I would still characterize as atypical! And just because it works sometimes doesn’t mean it’s not a HW issue; that’s exactly the kind of issue one might have if a component were slightly out of spec/alignment.

With the tight tolerances presumably required for FaceID to work well, I have no problem believing that hardware issues could be the reason you’re having trouble. If you’re near an Apple store, maybe you could try one of their devices and see if you have the same issues.

It’s working so well for so many others, hopefully it can for you as well. But due to the nature of ML and the training data that was used, I’m also sure that there are some faces that will simply not “work” as well for FaceID, at least initially. It’s possible the on-device ML will improve your experience—but not if there’s a HW issue :(

> I totally underestimated how many rich people there are

Rich people? You seen how many people around here are taking out loans to finance on installment plans?

Wow, didn't realize that. Too many crazy people around here then. Ah, ok, I see where the rich people get their money from. All money is created from debt. Makes sense.
