iP4 here in downtown Orlando with full 3G service - even with the highly controversial lowet left corner covered.

Fink :apple:

Obsessing over the issues with this phone is becoming a full time job for me.

I'm soooo close to returning this thing and getting a cheaper 3Gs. The wait to pre-order, ending up in pre-order hell w/ ATT, getting the phone and finding the antennas sucked in a big way instead of being groovy, and now my data speeds blow chunks ...

Not a happy camper.

Oh, and case selection/availability is abysmal.

I'm with you.

i would not blame this on the iphone itself. my nexus one is unable to use 3G data right now too. calls work over 3G and edge data works fine though.

Here are mine from the last week or so. Just shows how inconsistent AT&T is. I rarely get much over 1.3Mps.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but my 3G speed has been normal today.

According to Speedtest.net, app, we're getting between 1000-1900 down and 800-1200 up.

My old iPhone 3G was disconnected when I got my iPhone 4, so I can't speak to any difference there might be other than to say those speeds are normal for my 3G area (what there is of one, anyway)

Which is it? Number one, or number two?

I've had my phone since the day before Apple did the roll out and my 3G speeds are fast and consistent, no outages.

The real reason for your problem is the same as mine, it's that silver band around the outside of the phone that Apple calls the antenna. Even with a bumper mine is still marginal at best.

Where is your source link that proves you didn't make up the title of your thread?

I have not experienced any outages, nor has anyone else I know in CA.

I am not advocating for AT&T, however I do advocate for the facts!

I purchased the phone on the release date, and didnt notice any issues with my 3G speeds ( in comparison to my 3GS) or my ability to make or receive calls. The poor service i've referenced in my post begun just a few days ago, and have prevented me from making or receiving calls WHILE on 3G.

Listen... I'm simply relaying to you the information which was read off the screen by the AT&T rep on the other line. Discredit my post if you wish, however i have better things to do with my time then to make **** up on a Mac forum.

While i can get my phone to drop signal if i "Death Grip" it, i havent noticed any issues with signal loss since with real world use. I also use a bumper, and dont death grip the phone like a caveman.

Not True, the OP made up the title... there is no source link to prove his claim.

Common sense says that if that was true, many people would be complaining on all mobile forums.

You are simply a fanboi. Call AT&T yourself and have them tell you the same thing if you dont believe me.

Try lightening up a bit, the worlds not always out to get you.

You don't have to call AT&T to know they have issues and outages with 3G . . . just use your phone. I don't doubt at all that's what you were told, or that they have major outages. I can run a speed test here at my desk and get 23 Kbps one minute and 1.3Mps the next. I can go home, to a less crowded network, and get a much more consistent speed.

It is getting better every day. Yesterday I kept going later into the day. Today I've had it drop out, but only off and on. Last test I did a minute ago was as good as my morning tests; 5 Mbps down. For some reason all my up speeds are slower, only .8 Mbs.

I am getting only Edge in the Raleigh, NC all day today on my 3g. Actually got email from Apple store to pick up my 4 this afternoon. Hope its working by then.

a service bulletin has been issued, and a major outage is currently being experienced nationwide.

I would say either the customer service did not know what they were talking about, there is a local issue somewhere, or you mis-heard. But nationwide outage over the last few days? Bravo Sierra. My 3G has been absolutely peachy over the last few days. We drove from Richmond VA to Wilmington DE last night and my passenger was downloading meme videos and army bugle calls (don't ask) the whole way with no speed delay what-so-ever. This is with an iP4 and a case, BTW.

I don't doubt that you may be experiencing favorable service. Outages will affect some users differently than others. The rep didnt tell me that the entire AT&T 3G network went down, but rather they were experiencing major outages due to high volumes and issues on the east coast. It still doesnt make sense to me why I would be having so many issues out on the West Coast though, but i guess the only thing to do is sit it out, or return the phone. I was given an account credit due to the issues, but hopefully its resolved soon.

My personal feeling is that the signal issues being experienced now will not be resolved until AT&T can improve their network, or correct the outages effectively. A software update for iPhone4 would probably be worthwhile as well.

Ugh. 0.21 down and 0.32 up in Tysons Corner, VA. Had to switch to EDGE just to post this. Something is definitely up.
