I've never seen you get so fired up about something like this before. It's not that big of a deal. "Excessive usage" is a broad term. Agreed? With broad terms come broad generalizations. Don't be mad at people on these forums and other forums for talking about soft cap limits. Point that finger towards AT&T if you want.
My personal opinion says that AT&T just uses it as a scare tactic to their customers that are thinking of doing the 't-word.' Nobody in their right mind should be able to download over 5GB on a phone in a month period by simply browsing and playing games. And if you do go over it, then you're NOT IN YOUR RIGHT MIND! Get off your damn phone and get a life.
No carrier has cap limits on data for smartphones, and AT&T doesn't want to have to say the data is limited to 5GB. Cause then Sprint and Verizon will have a field day and market the hell out of their "Unlimited Data Plans!!"
Whether you like it or not Aggie, this conversation will always lead back to tethering. It is tethering, 99% of the time, that leads to the "excessive usage." Tethering ignores the TOC and should result in your contract being terminated if AT&T catches on whether you like it or not.
Soft caps aren't real. Just look at the term. It makes no sense at all. Terms like soft caps have been around for years to try to prevent people from doing something they don't want to happen. You better believe AT&T reps talk to cell phone salespeople and get on forums and talk about it behind the scenes to get the rumors flowing. Then corporate just sits back and acts like its not happening. I would do the EXACT same thing if I was in their shoes.
BTW, don't hate on me. I have just as much proof as everybody else does in this thread, none.
