AT&T Doubles Upgrade Fee from $18 to $36! [Was: At&t - go screw yourself!]

If the throttling wasn't enough - http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/10/atandt-doubles-its-upgrade-fee-to-36-come-february-12th/

Please explain to me how it costs $36 dollars for me to move my sim from one phone to another? Exactly how in the hell does AT&T justify that?:mad::mad::mad:

If you are going to hate on AT&T for this, hate on all the major carriers in the US, and even most of the smaller ones. Nearly everyone charges an upgrade fee.

Ironically, with AT&T, things that cost them money (read: sim cards) are free to replace any time. Just walk into an ATT store and ask for one. Makes more sense to charge for that than an upgrade fee, but they would make less money that way; there are far fewer people replacing sims than are upgrading phones.

I am hating on AT&T because they're my carrier and I don't agree with this. I don't even agree with the $18 upgrade fee either. Especially when they DO NOTHING when I swap my sim to the new phone I just bought. If I was with any other carrier and they did this, I would have the same views.

I wonder how much AT&T is going to charge for unlocking my iPhone when they come out with that -

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A406 Safari/7534.48.3)

I have no idea what it costs them to upgrade a customer from what phone to another, but I suspect that cost is somewhere around $0. How the hell can they possibly say that doubling the upgrade fee is justified? I can see a few bucks. But double?? This isn't right.

I completely understand. I was simply meaning to point out that this is not unique to AT&T.

After I read this on Gizmodo, I was outraged! I wasn't happy with the $18 upgrade fee, but then they had to go and double it? I am saving up for the next gen iPhone (already have $176), and it outrages me that I need to add more! I could've used that money for front and back protectors! **** YOU AT&T!

the wireless carriers are going to start nickel and diming their customers to death just like the airlines.

easy money.

It's simple math - how many iPhone users upgrade their phones every year again? a million?

1,000,000 x 36 = 36,000,000.00 in the bank!

I love att. I wish they would triplethe upgrade fee. I hate all you other customers hoggingmy bandwidth. :D
