Nice.
How do you guys do that.
Im not a fan of complaining to companies like that were in reality I have no right expecting a full upgrade whenever I feel like it cause I did sign a 2 year agreement.
What do you guys say to get them to change your upgrade or credit you money like that.
I figured they will just explain you how the upgrade process works and when you signed a contract and when your line will be eligible and then say good bye.

Not much really.

I have 3 iPhones on a business plan. Called business care *611 on Tuesday of the week of release and asked if I could upgrade early (my date in the system for mine was Nov. 16). Lady said no, I am sorry. I simply said; hmm, well why would I want to spend an extra 250, when I had to do the same last year?

She look up my purchase activity, and saw I paid 499.00 last year.

Then, without hesitation and no arguing whatsoever she told me she would issue me a 250 credit to my bill as soon as I ordered my phone. She also said she would call me on that upcoming Friday for confirmation (honestly I did not believe this part*).

Low and behold, Friday came, I ordered up via Apple.com, and around 10 am she in fact did call me; and my credit was applied.

Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised on how easy the offer came- and was actually completed without any hassle.

+1 on AT&T for this, I give them credit for great service on this one.

I have been a launch day iPhone user since the start. Leaving Verizon back in 2007 only for the iPhone. So, launch day 4 owner with an upgrade date of Nov 16th. They would not budge at all. So I left for Verizon and paid the ETF of $145. It's pitiful that they are willing to lose customers who pay 2.5k over 2 years over $250 bucks. The fact that it was still cheaper for me to pay an ETF and get the 4S on Verizon than there "early upgrade" was just insane. I also have noticed generally the same data speeds on Verizon compared to what I had on ATT here in NY. So it all works out.

Shouldn't your ETF be $165?

$325 (June 2010) - $10/month (16 months as of October 2011).

So 165?

Thats what I thought too honestly. And I was prepared to pay it regardless. But they quoted me at $145 and then sure enough, got the $145 charge added to the final bill 2 days ago.

You guys are missing my point. For some reason, AT&T dropped the $250 early upgrade following my complaint call. Anyone else got the same thing? Remember, I am a lauch day iPhone 4.

I get a new iPhone each year via AT&T at the upgrade price, without having to ask them to waive the fee.

It's good to be a longstanding AT&T customer. Loyalty _is_rewarded.

Check back with us in 12 months and tell us of AT&T lets u still upgrade every 12 months.

Cause AT&T changed upgrade policy for ALL users regardless of $99 primary lines.

You won't be able to upgrade every 12 months anymore.

It's going to be 18-21 months for All lines and this policy has been in effect since Spring 2011. The reason u have t realize this is because most have been holding off on their upgrade cause they were waiting for the iPhone.

my girlfriend works for an att callcenter and she has told me that reps have up to 250$ they can give out on each call no questions, so possibly that is why you got the 250. i guess it helps if you tell them you are going to take the survey after the call to influence that discount..

Question to those who got the early upgrade waiver, did you have to buy from ATT or did they just update the "system" and allow you to buy from Apple?

I spoke with a rep and she said she could move up my date today from 11/30 but I had to buy it through her. I told her this would be the same as wiating till the 30th because ATT is backordered for a while and I could reserve online for pickup tomorrow.

Thanks for any insight

Ive got them to dio it before, about a year ago when I was about 2 months away from an upgrade. Just be polite but persistant, and it doesnt hurt to be very personable. I always get his/her name and address them by it. I joked around with the rep and would say stuff like..."C'mon, Veronica, help me out here. Im willing to sign on for another TWO YEARS, so Im not going anywhere. I wanna stay with AT&T, I just want a new phone, and you can help me with that. Whaddya say?"

And she said no 2 or 3 times, I just kept at it like that and Id even say "New customers get all kinds of crazy deals...why cant a guy like me, whos been a loyal customer, get this little favor...Cant you do ANYTHING for me?? Anything at all?? Im not looking for a great deal, I just want a better phone, and you guys would get me locked in for another 2 years TODAY. RIGHT NOW. Its Win, Win!!", and she eventually found a way to upgrade me early (for $100, when at the time it would have been $75 had I waited another 2 months)

Ill be 2 months away in a week, so Im gonna call and give it another shot at that time.

This used to be the policy. The new official policy is that they can only move it to the beginning of the same month. That is, if your date is 11/30 or 11/10, they will move it to 11/1.

That was quoted to me on launch day when I asked about upgrading another line.

good luck with that. I was due 11/17 and could not get them to move. I ultimately had to use an upgrade from another line.

My upgrade date was 11/17 and when I checked this week it said I was eligible for the full upgrade. Picked mine up yesterday!

No Need to Have Complained.

I got my iPhone 4 at launch day, July XX, 2010. Up until a day before launch day (last Friday), AT&T wanted the early upgrade fee ($250). Called them on Saturday and compalined. They said they will get back to me on Monday. Out of curiosity, checked again the web site about 5 minutes after the call, it showed the $250 waived. Needless to say, I ran to the Apple store and got my iPhone 4S.

Anyone else with iPhone 4 launch day got their $250 waived?

They really did you no favor. Since you had completed your 2-year contract July 2010-July 2012, there should have been no $250 early upgrade fee because you are not upgrading early.

As to the other person whose iPhone 4 purchase date was in December, the $250 early upgrade fee should have fallen off as of one day this month.

Hey newbie, this thread is from last year. Why resurrect it? Check before posting.

BTW, the person to whom you responded hasn't logged in to the site since last February.

I have apologized for the error. I was new to this or any forum and did not realize the forum would have had that old of a thread.

Again, my apologies. But why is everyone so rude? I don't get it.

Because you newbies don't pay attention to things like dates. You just do a search for places to input your posts (as you've done at least twice now) and it messes up the entire flow of a forum. Just pay attention. It's a basic request.

If you have a specific question why not post a thread? Instead you search and then respond to a thread that has died 2-3 years ago and bring it back to the top. But you're not even asking anything, you're just responding to something someone posted years back.
You never used an online forum before?

I don't get it. It's considered poor form and bad forum etiquette to start a new thread when there are already existing threads about the topic. You get bitched at & told to "use the search function". It's also poor form to avoid starting new threads by using the search function and replying in an existing thread.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

That's the thing though...as much as the hoardes of ready-to-pounce web sheriffs would like you to feel damned by their admonitions, you are not actually damned in the slightest. Its just some random dude tossing bytes around. Big deal.

Typing anonymously gives lots of people big web muscles, which are vastly larger than their actual muscles. This size discrepancy fuels their desire to puff their www chests, as often and as quickly as possible, in a vain attempt to fashion a costume of superiority and control online, temporarily obscuring the fact that they have little, if any, offline.

lol and the ones complaining are the ones who say search the topic thee is already one made lol...

at least he searched for a topic hahaha

It's considered poor form to start a new thread asking a simple question that has been answered over and over again in the past (e.g. 'why does one of my iPhone's speaker grilles not emit sound? is it broken?') when a search would resolve that inquiry.

It's not considered poor form to start a new thread asking a question if you've already done a search and were unable to find a previous thread about your question.

He/she wasn't even asking a question though. Replying to an old thread is pointless and simply brings it up from the dead, bringing along with it a lot of now-irrelevant information that could potentially mislead other people who don't look at the original post date.

Had he had a question about an AT&T early upgrade waiver that wasn't answered in this thread, then sure, post a new thread along with the disclaimer that you'd already done a search and only found old information from last year. That's understandable and I doubt anyone would have bitched him out.

Replying to a poster who originally posted a year ago, hasn't logged into this site for half a year, and has already had his question answered, is the problem here.

You ask a very good question. There's no reason tips to new members (who might not be familiar with forum etiquette) need to be rude.

Don't worry about it, you'll pick it up as you go along.

I've only had my 4s for about 8 months. They'd probably laugh at me if I asked for an early upgrade. Especially when I'm only paying 60 per month.
