This is true. If AT&T tells you you HAVE to send the phone back tell them to look at their own refund policy. It's not there. Worst they can do is make you pay "Full price" for the phone... Which is either $400 or $600... Who knows which.

Non contract price is $600 and $700. Who wants to pay that.

$490+ is quite steep for what I was willing to pay for an 8gb. Thx for the clarification.

I don't want to get too specific here, but my bill from at&t came in tonight..

I called at&t cs and talked to someone in business care to make very sure my account was closed up and everything was fine. All in all, the 3g will have cost me $263. I could try and argue $39 of that back for the activation fee since it's supposed to be waived if you cancel within 3 days, but seeing as how the account is closed up now and everything seems final I don't want to open my account to any kind of investigation so I'm going to let that $39 activation fee ride :).

Number porting after plan disconnection!

Bearxor,

I read your forum posts and it seems that you got a sweet deal. Although, I have a question, when you cancel the Iphone contract in 3 days, what is the procedure in porting that number over to tmobile, or att go phone, or verizon ?? I would like to keep my old Iphone 2g number with me.

I currently have an Iphone 2g, 8GB which is unlocked. I plan to do the same thing that you did. I want to eventually end up with 2 Iphone's unlocked and then use Tmobile or At&t Go-phone..type plans. Clearly, me and my wife aren't heavy cell phone users, but we like the ipod feature of iphone and the quick lookup on the internet (wifi mode) for certain trivial things.

Thanks for your reply.
