I really hate pedantic arguments about trivial things that lead to nowhere. People find the dumbest things to argue about.
Huh? Wi-Fi hotspot is super small, fits in a pocket, goes where you go. Your phone connects to it and you use your phone just like normal. Tmo = slow overseas (free), WiFi hotspot = 3G speeds. Unlimited data.

^^ something like this is the closest thing you have for full functionality of your phone while traveling overseas. For $10/day. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

Meh. I have no complaints about the speed of TMo overseas. To each their own. I have a hard enough time keeping up with charging everything I already bring on the road. Don't want one more thing.

Go post-paid. There is no reason why AT&T should offer premium features like VoLTE or VoWiFi to the lower-end customers.

Why not? They need to remain competitive, even if it's sort of with themselves. If everyone thought like you then prepaid would be terrible. Thankfully even AT&T doesn't make poor business decisions like that and very often adds features to prepaid that were previously only available on post paid.

Shall I think of a hundred other examples? Plenty of phone numbers not attached to a smartphone with an app.

Sometimes you just have to admit you're wrong.
I stand with my original complain about them trying to advertise this as a solution when outside of US trying to call using their SIM card which is a total rip off...

Hmmm.

When outside the US and on any wifi network ( hotel) you can make a call to any US number, landline or mobile, any carrier, with no charge. Period. You can receive them free too.

ATT is simply allowing the phone to connect to the ATT domestic network from overseas. With no charge.

I don't see any scam. And it is more generally useful than Skype, WhatsApp, or FaceTime audio.

It works when the foreign country has Wi-Fi coverage in most area. However, that is the catch.

As is true for 'free' WhatApps, Skype or any app over Wifi (except you can only call a smartphone app for free).

Nothing is hidden here. It's very up front for working over WiFi, wherever one can find.

Simple.

People need to realize that some apps don't work everywhere in the world. For example if you send me a Dropbox link or try to message me on Whatsapp while I'm in China, it's not going to work. Sure I can get around the block, but why should I have to if you can't be considerate of this? So I just have everyone call me even if I'm paying $2/minute.
