If you buy a phone from Apple, pay full price and aren't on a contract with AT&T do they still hit you with the fee?
I haven't checked my AT&T bill yet to see if they did.
Yes, AT&T will add a $15 activation fee per new phone.

I simply just asked. My exact words were "I just recently added two new iPhones and was told I would be charged activation fees on my paid in full phones. I've never asked this before, but I was wondering if I can get credited for those fees." The CSR on the chat just said of course she can, and added the credit immediately. In fact, my account already posted the $30 credit. Pretty darn nice.
Now is this only if you pay in full? I did the AT&T next so was just wondering..

I didn't get a $15 charge.

Paying full price from Apple equals no commitment equals no charge from att.

You'll want to check your AT&T bill if you activated the SIM that came with the iPhone.
I ordered two iPhones.

I used my full subsidy upgrade $299 iPhone 6S 64gb from att dot.

I paid full $850 for iPhone 6S plus 64gb directly from Apple.

I activated the nano sim that came preinstalled in the $299 iPhone 6S (my line) cause I wanted that sim activated cause I would immediately take that newly activated sim out to activate my 6S plus that came from Apple.

I was using my spare lg G3 which has a micro sim. That's why I activated the sim in the iPhone 6S subsidized so I could avoid a trip to att Corp store to replace my micro sim

I never pay an upgrade fee.... total money grab that serves no purpose but to line their pockets.
Of course this thread is 3 years old but still rings true.

I just called to try to get the $45 upgrade fee waived. Got shot down.

Will try again tomorrow. It's hit or miss who u are dealing with. I had gotten upgrade fees waived from 2004-2010. 2011 no. 2012 yes. 2013 no. 2014 (partial waived/$25 credit on the $36 upgrade fee).

Try doing the online chat, I have better luck that way.

I got a small credit today due to the long wait on my order. $20 but better than nothing. I had zero balance and the credit hasn't shown up yet.

Is it normally visible online immediately or does it take some time? Thank you.

I bought full price from ATT. Put the SIM from the 6+ into the 6S and all is good.
No fee charged.

I cannot understand why anyone would let AT&T, Verizon or Sprint charge you to be their customer. I argued this against Verizon and Sprint and they both backed off and credited me. I simple asked "why are you charging me $$ to be your customer"? This usually works.

When they act like they don't know or make an excuse that it's maintenance fee or some other BS excuse I just tell them "how about I not buy your phone and go to the competition instead?" That quickly changed their mind.

Keep an eye on your bill - while i thought i was successful, when received my bill i noticed that they did credit me 2X $45 but they also billed me 2x upgrade fees on each line!

I have four lines with these idiots. Two on next, one out of contract, one soon to be out of contract (12/21) for a total of around $280 per month. Went in store to upgrade and the only way they'd waive the $45 was if I went next (which I don't want to do). Customer "service" told me "well I guess we can waive this but we've waived it before and you can't expect us to keep waiving a legitimate charge"! All in addition to losing he $25 bribe I have now per month on all lines. Even though I wouldn't pay it as a new Customer (FAN discount) they keep pushing it - even escalating via my National Account rep just meant a call from Stephanie at "the office of the President" who didn't know my name and was reading my issues as she defended them while speaking to me. Totally unprofessional and on 12/22 we will be a Verizon family!

I get AT&T to waive my upgrade fee every upgrade cycle because of my FAN account. When I inquired about it the rep told me that people with that particular FAN account get automatically get their fees waived.
