hahah I totally agree... but it doesn't mean AT&T can't join the suckwagon. Way to go people, MMS fail, Tethering fail....what's next? another server meltdown come June 19th?

i hear ya... then again - i've been tethering all along on 2.2.1 - so aslong as there is a jailbreak - i'll be happy

Pretty much sums up AT&T's day yesterday.

MMS is so difficult to implement for the iPhone. rrrrrrrrrrrriiiight....

What's next, MMS charges for all iPhone 3GS users unless they get a $35 unlimited messaging plan in order to use MMS?!

More likely the reason it's not happening at launch is that AT&T are waiting until their 7.2Mbps is build out better and when it has more capacity. It would put massive strain of 10m users all started sending their videos without the capacity to hold it while keeping all the non-iPhone users happy too.

The whole remove opt-out is a ruse. That's not the issue. They can run a script that would remove that within an hour or two.

It's easier to have capacity and coverage in much smaller countries, that probably have less 3G coverage than the US.

Also, don't expect Verizon to come into the fray until the 4G networks are built out more. Unless Apple start to build network specific phones (which I doubt), that makes Sprint a non-starter. T-mobile in the US haven't the resources or network to keep up with AT&T and Verizon. Verizon's 4G network will be a standardized network like the rest of the world, but honestly, it will come down who wants to give Apple more money.

Look at the wired.com iphone worldwide speed survey --- AT&T tied for 3rd place in the whole world. Look at the other iphone carriers --- some have secretly crippled the 3G speed to 384 kbps, some have idiotic 250 MB a month data allowance...

i sure hope you arent whinging. we only get 20mb data allowance, IF THAT

AT&T and Apple are probably playing Hardball right now. AT&T wants another year of the monopoly and Apple want's to break that.

AT&T screws Apple by withholding MMS and Faster 3G, Apple screws AT&T by dealing 4G with Verizon.

The little digs are an indication that this is happening in the background.

AT&T has been really gouging us for owning an iPhone, but we did get a huge commitment from them when they expanded their networks and supported visual voicemail, etc.

It was a win-win on both sides, but they are really gouging now...

If you truly believe that I have some ocean front property I can sell you in Arizona...

I agree. If Apple really wanted to not embarrass ATT so much they wouldn't have put all of those carriers on the screen at once, and leave ATT off of it. That looked really bad for AT&T.

But hopefully it is a good sign that this exclusive rights thing will end at the end of the contract.

I don't know why their are people here sticking up for AT&T, I mean it is awful that MMS and tethering aren't available at the same time as other countries. Especially for what you pay for the iphone, data, and minutes (with no texting included). The whole thing is just bad.

It's going to look bad either way.

Brits are rioting after their initial joy of seeing o2 as one of the carriers on the tethering slide --- after they found out that they have to pay an extra 15 pounds a month for 3 GB of iphone tethering.

Just wait a little longer and you'll get MMS, sorry but I'm not seeing the problem here. I don't care if their the one of the biggest carriers or if other carriers has it before them. Its not like they said they'll not support MMS, just that they'll have it ready at the end of the summer. Big whoop, whats another 2 months.

I just don't get what they have to "get ready". Every phone on their network except the iPhone already have this feature.

Agreed

ATT sucks..

When you suck so bad nothing can embarrass you. I unlocked my phone when I go to Europe for work I use a french carrrier, my phone works all over the subways, EVERYWHERE!!! When I still have my ATT SIM on I drop covererage EVERYWHERE. When I am in the US and take the metro here in DC where I live, my phone is an ipod Touch.

I wish I had 4 hands so I can give ATT 4 thumbs down.

Because I would argue that the sheer number of iPhones, and propensity for iPhone owners to use the data network, will put a greater strain on the network than all the other phones combined.

What has AT&T been outdone?

Look at the wired.com iphone worldwide speed survey --- AT&T tied for 3rd place in the whole world. Look at the other iphone carriers --- some have secretly crippled the 3G speed to 384 kbps, some have idiotic 250 MB a month data allowance...

Aside from a time-limited special price by Canada's Rogers (with a 6 GB a month data allowance for the 3G iphone) --- nobody else came close to AT&T's regular 5 GB iphone data plan.

well, that 6GB/month promotion is back, and we already have both MMS & tethering working with Rogers/Fido with no extra charge..
