I'm going to wait for the family shared data plans and LTE iPhone to roll out before I decide.

My iPhone is Unlimited, the second line on my acct. is the 200MB (or whatever it is) and the third is 2GB.

I'm torn on how I want to proceed, since they up the throttling limit to 5GB on LTE for unlimited plans there's no motivation to go tiered unless they offer a $30/mo 5GB LTE plan.

From there, if they have the right offering for the family shared data it could be enticing. I would love to buy 5-6GBs for all lines to share if that would also allow for tethering on any of those lines...

this is exactly what I was about to post....unless they offer 5gb for $30....stay with unlimited.

Hell no! I am keeping my unlimited plan until they pry it from my dead fingers.

If I have to buy the iphone 5 outright, I will do that. Funny thing is with the ipad they didnt force me out of the unlimited plan for the LTE ipad 3.

I never use more than 1 GB a month because I have WiFi at work, home, my friends houses, and I have 2 phones.

I dropped down to the $25 plan to save $60 a year. Havent had an issue yet... haven't looked back.

Hell no!!! Keeping my unlimited for as long as I can. I never been throttled or warned about tethering. I don't tether much tho. I hit around 3-4gb on average. There has been times I hit more.

I never been throttled either I I use over 4-5GB a month. Maybe it depends on the market.

The people who actually want to keep the unlimited data must have never been throttled. After having unlimited data for 4 years, all it took was 2 months of back to back throttling to make me leave ATT. And I had 28% FAN acct.

Throttling basically made my phone useless for 2-3 weeks out of each month because I started a different job and would hit 3gb within a few days.

I switched to the Tmobile Wal Mart $30 plan and have all of the service I had with ATT, plus wifi tethering on my Galaxy S3.

im never going to pay more then 30 a month for data.

my phone is jailbroken and i use pdanet for streaming and my3g for facetime calls over 3g.

hopefully there will be a jailbreak fast with the new phone.

I have never gotten throttled and I use 4GB+/ month. I live in Philly.

I am staying with mine. if I had multiple data phones, I might think differently about the shared plans. As it is, I just have my iPhone and my parents phones on my account. My parents just have basic phones that cost $10/mo. I have no texting plans since iMessage came out. So I am paying $100/mo for 3 phones. On the cheapest shared plan, the same would be $160 for 2 GB of data and 2 "basic" phones at $30/mo! They really don't seem to want customers who just want a basic phone anymore.

I did the same last year. I have never hit 2 GB in a month since I started using an iPhone in 2008.

The time I probably did not even hit the 500 Mb mark... my days with the original iPhone and Edge only... it is funny how it was still great then, but the second I got the iPhone 3G... Edge instantly became the worst thing ever.

I will probably keep my unlimited if they allow the iPhone 5 to be upgraded in contract to include LTE....I really believe they will start out offering this option, but by the following year, it won't be offered, because they will notice an overwhelming use of LTE network constraint.

If they offer LTE unlimited data contracts to us who are grandfathered in, I will upgrade ASAP before they remove it/take it away, because it is bound to happen...and if true of 5GB LTE cap, thats incredible for me, and I think its worth upgrading early to be locked in.

I dropped my unlimited plan just to be able to tether my iPad 3. It turned out that I wasn't using a lot of data anyway. For an additional $20 a month, I could now use my iPad 3 anywhere.

I also plan on keeping my unlimited data plan until they pry it away from me. No, I've never been throttled, but I'd rather AVOID paying for data overages.

I do A LOT of browsing, emailing, apps, tweets, messages, etc throughout the day, but I don't do much streaming unless I'm at home, but I have WiFi at home. I have no need to tether.

In the end, the plan I have - unlimited data, 1500 texts, 450 min w/ rollover - is the plan I've had since I got my first iPhone back in Feb 2008. I held onto it throughout having my original iPhone, my 3GS, and now my 4S.

It continues to fit my needs and I see no reason to change anything up.

When I saw that I had never gone over 1GB of data after nearly 3 years, I decided to just save the $5/month.

If I want to do something unlimited, I still have my iPad, which is better for movies anyway. And even there I have never gone over 2GB.

you could of just jailbroken your iPhone and used a tethering app for free...
saving you that 20 a month

No, I am not into jail breaking my idevices. Too much trouble. I need my iPhone and iPad to work EVERY time. $20.00 is not a big deal to me. 5GB is plenty for me.

ive never had a problem jailbreaking my devices. Have always worked. doing it for over 4 years. But if you believe it wont work for some reason the more power to ya.

The reason they keep telling you to go look at your usage history and see that you don't need that much data is because they know the history is low but big things are coming.

There was a time I never used more than 100MB of data, then 300MB, recently looking at my bill both me and my wife just suddenly jumped to 1GB of data. Neither of us use our phones the same. We both have wifi most places, but data usage is going up. Neither of us stream. 1GB from just using maps, facebook, camera, misc apps & web browsing.

ATT is trying to make you switch before you realize you need more data. And its working.

The other day I had to restore from icloud backup. Once this kicked off there was no way to stop it. It would auto download content all the time and restart any time it could. I used 3GB of data in 3 days and there was nothing I could do to stop it except maybe give up my backup entirely or leave my phone home for 3 days and do it on wifi.

I use tether.com. No Jailbreak. BTW: I never tether, I only have it for a just in case scenario.

Think also depends on if more than one person or people on account. My wife and I both have iphones and Ipad and we are around wyfi 90 percent of the time. Here, where live ATT has tons of free spots too. So together if we got he 6 gb plan and added the two iphones and two ipads we would save about 45 a month. More because we had to pay 25 to get the 2 gigs for the ipad when we wanted 4g. So for some, it can save money and the added benefit of facetime over celluar is ok. I agree its wrong what they are doing but it is what it is.
More if we went the 4gb plan, only say 6 cause she does travel sometimes and thats where the usuage kicks in. So we prolly in time will switch.

Unlimited plan

Hi
If you aren't willing to your unlimited plan
.im interested in buying.can you transfer the plan really appreciate it
Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I am heavily considering dropping my unlimited and moving to a tethering plan. I sometimes need to tether and right now I jailbreak. But I am getting tired of the jb game- the jailbreaks are taking longer and longer with each iOS update. I rarely tether but when I need it I NEED it for school. It seems a hassle to be jailbroken just for that.

My plan is to wait for 4G, presumably we will get a new iPhone that uses it this fall. I will give it a few months and see how my data use is. Am I going over 5GB, am I being throttled, etc. I need to see 4G in action before I can make the final call. I generally do not hit 3GB right now but I'm sure that will increase.

If I don't hit 5gb a month and I am being throttled past 3gb,'I'll probably switch to a tiered plan.

OK Im just wondering I have the unlimited data plan from AT&T when I preorder my phone tomorrow (I hope I get through traffic) will I have the option that lets me choose to stay with my current plan?

Also when I do get my iPhone 5 do I automatically get LTE with unlimited (until you hit the 3GB limit and they send you back to 2G/3G)

really confused about this so help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Also I am using a discount from my employers.

You'll get 5gb on LTE unlimited before throttling. I'm not sure how it will work for upgrading. I assume you'll be able to choose the LTE unlimited plan as a grandfathered choice.

I also have my employer discount. It's quite nice.
