I did.. I have had every iPhone since day 1 on launch day and have always thought i'd keep "unlimited" data forever (or as long as possible). Well, for 3 iPhones and an iPad I was paying about $310/month... 2 iPhones were unlimited one was not as it was bought after that was available. No iPhone has ever used more than 1GB of data in a given month. I decided to switch to the 10GB shared data plan for all 4 devices - cost per month is now $227 for all 4 devices. A very nice savings. And if I go over the 10GB I think it is just $15 for another 10GB. Plus with the throttling it's not really unlimited anyway.

I just found out that my iPhone, paid for by my father on his plan, is on the unlimited $30/mo data plan (found out when I preordered the iPhone 5 for me and him).

*Do I get to use LTE and HSPA+ if available? Or does it only work on 3G, given that we got the plan when we first bought our iPhone 3G and thus only applies to/gives service for 3G? (No one in my family has the iPhone 4S so I don't know if we get the ATT "4G")

*Is the "cap" (throttle) at 3GB or 5GB? Is this per phone or for every phone on the plan (me, my father, & my sister all have iPhones)?

*Does the throttle simply last for the remainder of the month after going over the cap?

*What is the throttling - do you get downgraded to EDGE or something?

Needless to say, I was stoked when I found out I have the (supposedly) highly valued and currently unobtainable "grandfathered" plan. I now plan on more freely using 3G instead of always worrying I could be adding cost to my dad's plan (he actually didn't even know what kind of plan he had, so neither did I). I just preordered him a new iPhone 5 (he still uses his iPhone 3G) and one for me as well.

Thanks for anyone willing to answer the questions directly, and not refer me to use Google (because then no one gets the fun of responding ;))

They'll have to pry my Unlimited from my cold hands.

No way am I EVER giving it up Voluntarily.

Hotspot, that's what the Jailbreak Community is for.

You guys do know, Unlimited isn't coming back anytime soon right!?

this.

Nope. Keeping my glorious (though somewhat pricey) unlimited international data plan. Just confirmed I was able to keep it during the order process though it did require manual intervention by our company premier account manager.

I gave up my grandfathered plan well over a year ago and haven't looked back. I looked at my usage and I never used over 3 GB a month. Like having the ability to tether without dealing with jailbreaking.

To each his own I guess.

Wait and see

Crazy that I am seeing this now since I was just going through this decision when upgrading to iPhone 5.

In all honesty, it is highly unlikely that my wife and I will go above 5 GB (about 0.1 on average), but with LTE and my interest in Spotify I definitely want to wait and see what my usage is a couple months in to my iPhone 5 life. You can always change to a sharing plan, but you can't change back!

One thing that I am weary about is that I was going to sign up online since a $30 unlimited plan was offered to me, but I saw a small banner saying that my current data plan didn't meet the required specifications and I was getting a new one offered by ATT. That kind of made me feel like there was as sneaky switch going on and when I upgraded at the att store the rep said that was a plan they were going to turn off after some period of time. So, I am glad I did it at the store and not online. I guess we'll see if that was really the case.
