I just spoke to ATT about my LTE, or lack there of. I am smack dab in the middle of a strong LTE market, with no LTE when I drive all around baltimore.

Guy said, and I quote..."4g is the same as LTE"...I told him nice try, and canceled the line. lol. He actually laughed when I said nice try.

Restore

Well I restored my i5 to see if that would fix my signal problems. I can actually say it seems to have fixed my problem. It has been an hour and I havent had it say "searching" or "no service". Sweetness!

AT&T in Baton Rouge. I have had LTE almost the entire time I've had my phone since Friday night. Almost always at least 3 bars of it too. Most place I have all 5 bars. It isn't always lightning fast but it is 90% of the time. And sometimes whenever I end a call, it will take a little while to connect back to LTE from Hspa+ 4G. But I can live with that 🙂. It may be because LTE isn't at it's full strength here yet. But either way I'm not complaining 🙂

Anyone notice a difference in signal strength? I am coming from a 4s and have noticed that I randomly get no service when before I didnt have that problem at home. Hope I didnt get a lemon 🙁

Exact same issue here. I get No Service every 5-10 minutes for about 30-60 seconds and then it returns to 2-4 bars of 4G (no LTE as of yet).

Already tried calling AT&T and they re-registered my device on their network twice, I have done a hard reset, reset network settings, removed/reinserted my sim, etc, nothing has worked yet. I'm going to give it a few days but in the end, I know I can easily swap it for a new one at the apple store if it doesn't get better.

my god im glad that someone finally said something
Actually, if you still have your 4s, or any other 3g phone for that matter, the problem should be the same...

i called at&t, and even though there were no outages in my area, he told me with the quick rise of LTE's across the nation, along with the iphone 5 activations, the networks are being iffy

He told me, if by monday the problem still persists to call him back and they will escalate my issue. heres hoping that it clears up

For those of you having "No signal" issues with AT&T iPhone 5's, try turning off LTE in the cellular settings and see if that solves your problem. I had the same issue as my iPhone kept hopping on a weak AT&T LTE signal that isn't supposed to be deployed for a few more months. I'm going to keep LTE turned off until AT&T officially launches their LTE network, and hope that the weak signal issues are no longer an issue at that time.

Surprised AT&T allows LTE to be turned on or off. Remember how they did away with the "Disable 3G" option which was a bummer because the same issue arose, where the phone would constantly lock on to a very weak 3G signal and be useless and sucking battery when a much stronger (usable) EDGE signal was present. You have to wonder if they'll do away with the choice in a future update?

I get 0 to 1 bars in my house, most of the time it's no service.

Don't even think about LTE... Although at my work 5 minutes away, I get 4 bars and LTE!

Probably going to complain and ask for a free microcell.

Sounds like you're in a similar situation; your house is on the edge of their LTE coverage, so your phone ends up struggling to maintain a signal. Turn off LTE until they expand their coveragr and you'll be fine.

I was an AT&T customer a couple years back with the 3GS. I eventually had to switch to Verizon because I had no signal in my house. What are the chances that 4g service is good enough in my area now that I'd get a signal in my home?

My signal is strong, unfortunately, I have no LTE. It took two days on the phone with AT&T before someone figured out what was going on, after resetting my phone completely, among a dozen or so other tests that never showed anything wrong.

As it turns out, the two towers nearest me do not have LTE, but the rest do. When the agent told me this I was skeptical, but she told me to check my phone the next time I was out. Sure enough this afternoon I was out and about and I was getting LTE everywhere, until I pulled into my neighborhood.

I posted earlier and said that restoring the phone did the trick. Spoke too soon. I went to the ATT store and while I was there it was continuously searching/no service/full service. It happened about 10 times at the store. We swapped out the sim card and bam, I have been good to go. I tried disabling LTE earlier in the day to see if that was it, but it still did the same thing.

Getting 4G and LTE. Although my phone does that annoying thing with 4G that old iPhones used to do... hanging onto 1 bar of 3G instead of dropping to 5 bars of EDGE.

Tried that, it's not any better. Even my sisters 4s and my dads dumb phone get horrible signal. Always have.. Lol

I actually returned my phone today. I was down in Atlantic City and the phone was totally useless in terms of data speeds (.4 down/.01 up. Traveling up the Garden State Parkway I had full service and data at .80-1mbps down and .4 up. My buddies phones on Verizon were loading at much faster LTE speeds.

My 4S never had issues so perhaps it was a lemon. I did notice that if I gripped the phone it would lose signal (with a case). I don't know if it was my imagination though because I was so frustrated.

I returned it and I'll be waiting to find a Verizon model. New Jersey has no AT&T LTE so its a loss for me.

I mostly have 3 to 5 4G/LTE bars everywhere I go on my 5, just like on my old 4S. AT&T is awesome where I live, work and travel.

I got my Iphone 5 on launch day and have been toggling between 4g and Edge networks consistently. There is no LTE in my area, but it seems like I am on Edge network quite frequently. I never had any issues with my Iphone 4. Always on 3g. I also notice that the phone will be searching for a network or have very low signal in areas that I previously had good signal with my IP4. I have my LTE toggled on in case I go into an area with an LTE network but I'm not sure if that is hurting me when I am not in an area that has LTE. Data speeds on Edge are terribly slow and 4g is slightly better but not by much.

Exceptional signal strength & terrific call quality with the wide variety of feature phones, and smartphones (since their inception) I've owned over the years is what's kept me loyal to AT&T for over a decade.

Other than a rather mysterious background noise I hear from the iP5, it's fantastic. As time permits I'll see if I can isolate this noise. Friday I called Apple & the tech I spoke with said he was aware and for me to check back.

He took my serial number down specifically to add to the notes in my file. In addition I was given a case number. That usually indicates they're serious about the condition. Time will tell.

I'm in an area "blanketed" with LTE coverage. Generally have coverage here, but upon receiving or dialing a call, the LTE drops out and all data indication (LTE, 4G, E, etc.) drop out. If someone is calling me, it gives them a generic, "this person is not currently accepting calls" message.

Anyone else having this problem? Should I just turn off LTE?

Thanks

Edit: Issues seems to go away if LTE is turned off.

Hard Reset

I did a hard reset and it fixed the problem.

First I quit all my apps.

Then to do a hard reset just hold the sleep button and home button at the same time until the phone turns off...Turn it back on and BAM!! all is good again in the world!!

My signal is not inconsistent or doesn't go to "no service" randomly. When I am in an areas that gets no service, it is quick to find service once I am no longer in that area. I did notice, however, that on my basic phone I used to get 5 bars in my home. My iPhone 5 came in yesterday and I noticed that I only get 1-4 bars and it keeps switching bars. Is this a problem?
